Have a Nice Day? Mine Has Been Insane…

Warning! This post has nothing to do with American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, X Factor, Glee, or any of the shows I cover on this blog.

But I’ve had such an insane day, I feel the need to share. I live on the Boston Marathon route. The runners come right by my house. There was a big marathon party on the top floor of my 5 story building today.  Somehow, party-goers  made their way to the roof to watch the race….

I was sitting at my desk happily blogging away this afternoon when I heard a huge CRASH. I rushed out of my apartment to see a young man, covered in blood, with glass strewn everywhere laying on a landing a few steps below where I was standing.

Suddenly, his friends appeared, completely fearful, panicked and SCREAMING for help. It was total pandemonium.  I rushed back inside to call 911, still with no idea what happened, or why some guy was unconscious and bleeding with glass all around him in the vestibule of my apartment building.

Long story short–the man and his friends were partying on the 5th floor of my building and somehow made their way to the roof to watch the race. Then, somehow, the guy fell through the roof skylight,   tumbling  all the way down a narrow passageway, hitting railings as he fell. Remarkably, he was sort of conscious when the paramedics took him out of the building on a stretcher.

The police swarmed the building, taped off the entrance, warning us not to touch anything. Hours later, it’s still a mess out there. We aren’t permitted to clean it up yet. I live on the 1st floor. If I had been standing outside my door, he would have whizzed by me, landing just a few feet away.

He’s at Mass General Hospital in serious condition right now. I hope he’s not permanently injured.

Meanwhile, it’s been crazy around here all day. The police and paramedics were first to show up. Then the print reporters arrived, followed by the news trucks and a frigging helicopter to shoot the skylight.

PS: I just let a hazmet team in to clean up the blood. They tell me that the investigation is closed. The incident has been ruled an accident.
