Glee Set for Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever Tribute in April (Plus, Darren Criss will Miss 2 Episodes)

Bleh. True to form, Glee co-creator and TROLL  Ryan Murphy continues to take back what he said over the summer about the show going “back to basics” for Season 3. The parade of guest stars we weren’t supposed to have are rolling out, including Ricky Martin, Pit Bull and Gloria Estefan (and surely there will be more).

But now Ryan is planning ANOTHER tribute episode for April featuring the soundtrack of the Bee Gee’s Saturday Night Fever.

Ryan has said on numerous occasions that there would be only one big tribute episode this season. The Michael Jackson episode, scheduled for January 31, will feature 10 songs.

Here’s the thing: I’m not a big fan of tribute episodes, because they tend to be long on music and short on character and plot. Basically, the writers are crafting a story around the song, instead of the other way around, and the result is less than satisfying. C’mon Ryan, most of the kids are graduating! Can’t we just focus on their individual stories? Oh right. You’re going for the big ratings grab. Ugh.

“We’ve never done disco on the show,” Ryan tells TV Guide, “but I’m interested in the genius of The Bee Gees.”  Ryan is also considering approaching Saturday Night Fever star, John Travolta, to do a cameo.

“Travolta and Cory Monteith [Finn] became close friends at a party when Cory told him he’d seen [the 1996 Travolta movie] Broken Arrow 20 times. Travolta sent him an autographed copy of the DVD. So maybe we’ll have them dance in a Finn dream sequence.”

Kill. Me. Now.

As long as I’m doling out bad Glee news, here’s some more! In an interview with TV Line on the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night,  Chris Colfer revealed that Darren Criss will be missing TWO Glee episodes due to his 3 week stint on Broadway.

The first is the Ricky Martin ep. No biggie. The second? The Valentines episode. Yep. No Klaine for V-day. Chris promises there will be “fun stuff going on for the rest of us.” Kurt without his boyfriend on Valentines Day.  Sounds awesome.
