Glee finally returns this Thursday, March 7 at a special 9:30/8:30c time, right after a 90 minute American Idol results show!
This highly anticipated episode is a tribute to the movies and features eight big performances. The most eagerly awaited song, of course is the Chris Colfer/Darren Criss duet “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge. Fans have been hoping for the duo to sing this song to each other ever since Chris namechecked it as his favorite love song way back during season 2. The recording does not disappoint.
My second favorite of this bunch is the raucous “Shout” sung by Blaine (Darren Criss) and a surprisingly soulful Brittany (Heather Morris). This song was aching to be given the Glee treatment.
I wish I could be super-excited about “In Your Eyes” the song Will (Matthew Morrison) will use to woo back Emma (Jayma Mays). I just don’t dig Matthew singing pop songs. He fares much better when he channels Fred Astaire in his duet of “You’re All The World to Me” with Jayma from “Royal Wedding”.
“Footloose” has never been one of my favorite songs, and again, I’m surprised it took 3 seasons for New Directions to take that on. I would say ditto for “Old Time Rock n Roll.” What better excuse to get a hot guy in his underpants? That actually better be happening here. Heh. (ETA: And it is! See the Sneak Peek below!)
“Unchained Melody” is pretty enough. Ryder (Blake Jenner) and Jake (Jacob Artist) duet–I wonder if it’s a montage that involves their mutual love, Marley (Melissa Benoist)?
Speaking of Marley, she and Unique (Alex Newell) are cheeky fun (with the rest of the gals) on a mashup of “Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend/Material Girl.” The song is from the Marilyn Monroe classic “Gentleman Prefer Blondes”. The “Material Girl” music video was a tribute to that song.
