Glee came back from it’s spring hiatus with a run of disappointing shows, but beginning with “Original Song”, Glee has been as good as its ever been. Tonight’s show was another fabulous episode.
Watching the kids audition for the National’s solo revealed once again how incredibly talented this cast is. Naya Rivera, Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Amber Riley were all amazing in their own way, and it was cool to see how far their characters have come from their initial Glee auditions two years ago.
The death of Sue Sylvester’s beloved sister also spells the death of the Sue Sylvester that had increasingly become one note and cartoonish on Glee. Finally, some true character development seems to be on the way for Sue. The peace she made with Will and the kids is permanent, hopefully. Like Sue said, she’s got “bigger fish to fry”. The places the talented Jane Lynch can take Sue are limitless. I’m optimistic creator Ryan Murphy has finally got the character on the right track.
Also, it was goodbye to Will’s harpie wife who is on her way to Florida to manage a “Sheets and Things” store. Bye. Not going to miss her. Her last good deed–making sure the Will and the kids had 1st class airline tickets to New York City was a sweet send off. The “League of Doom” stuff had its moments, but I’m glad next week’s finale will concentrate on New Direction’s city adventure sans Sue Sylvester shenanigans.
I cried all the way through the funeral. “Pure Imagination” was magical, and Jane Lynch played her scenes with exactly the right balance of humor and pathos. Now, it’s on to New York and Nationals.
I’m thinking the kids will lose, like they lost sectionals last year. This way, the kids can triumph next year when they once again (and you know they will) head to compete in the big competition. It will be especially poignant, because the kids will be seniors and graduating. Not quite sure how Murphy is going to handle it, but I expect we’ll be losing some beloved gleeksters at the end of Season 3.
Amongst the interweaving plot lines of tonight’s Glee is one that involves the death of someone who is close to “one of McKinley’s own”. The only thing we know so far is that the death is a woman, someone we know, and unexpected.
Unlike the “Prom Queen” Karovsky/Kurt surprise, this plot twist has yet to leak on the internets, and personally? I like it that way.
In other developments, Will Schuester hires Jesse St. James (or Jesse St. Suck as an irritated Kurt calls him in the previews) as a consultant to help New Directions triumph at the upcoming Nationals competition in New York City.
Gleeksters will have to audition for solos, which is awesome news for us, because we will be treated to performances from Kurt, Rachel, Santana, Mercedes and more in tonight’s episode. Loves it. As always, I’ll be back later with a recap and videos.
