The trailer for the Martin Scorcese documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World is out.
George was not only the “quietest” Beatle, but in many ways the most fascinating. By many accounts, he became fed up with fame early in the game. His quest to find meaning in his crazy existence led to a serious exploration of Eastern religion that seemed to give him not only peace of mind, but a deeper wisdom.
George had a prolific career post-Beatles, making solo albums, and collaborating with heavy hitters like Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty with the Traveling Wilburys. He was easily my favorite Beatle post-break up.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard George lost a battle with cancer in 2001 at age 58. Yep, I cried.
Living In The Material World will feature interviews from Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, George Martin, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Phil Spector, Ringo Starr and Jackie Stewart. The three-and-a-half hour documentary will explore George’s life and career and will air on HBO in two parts on October 5th and 6th.
