Fox Chief, Kevin Reilly, in a wide ranging interview with New York Magazine, reveals that American Idol WILL be renewed for another season:
Fox hasn’t officially announced it, but yes, American Idol will return next season: “It’s coming back next year,” Reilly says. I ask him if thinks the notion of having Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson return as judges might be a good one. “Yes, possibly — for the last season,” Reilly says. “But I’m not yet in that place where [next season] would be the last season.”
I’m hoping Reilly was just talking out of his butt about bringing the original judges together for a final season. Looking through a veil of nostalgia, it seems like a really good idea. But remember: Drunk Paula, disinterested Simon and no-nothing Randy. Do we really want that back? I don’t.
Nevertheless, Reilly doesn’t isn’t looking at American Idol 14 as the last season of the show. Of course, all of that could change if the ratings dive even lower next year…
