Former Survivor Castaway Charged with Child Porn, Racketeering

Remember the Survivor castaway who fell face first into a campfire? In 2001 Michael Skupin was the first person to be medically evacuated from the show, specifically The Australian Outback season.

Skupin, who is also a former Survivor Philippines contestant, is in huge trouble. And it’s disturbing news. The former reality star is facing 11 criminal charges, including possession of child pornography and racketeering, the Michigan Attorney General’s office announced Friday.

The child pornography was discovered after an investigation into Skupin began over an alleged Ponzi scheme. People who claimed to be victims contacted a local newspaper. The alleged victims say they made $10,000 investments to a gifting scheme called Pay It Forward, in which they were promised returns dependent on new investor’s money. Investors say they lost all of their money after the new investment pool dried up.

As law enforcement investigated Skupin, they reportedly discovered child pornography on his computer. The former castaway is being held on $350,000 bond.

“Not only did this man rob people of their hard earned savings with his financial scams but he victimized innocent children every time he looked at a piece of child pornography,” Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a statement. “This man seems to have no concept or caring for right and wrong and will be prosecuted under the full extent of the law for these horrific crimes.”

Skupin, 54, is also the father to seven children.
