Oh Nigel Lythgoe! You sly dog you. The So You Think You Can Dance judge and executive producer has scooped up Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev to choreograph a routine for the So You Think You Can Dance final performance ahead of the September 16 finale.
Sharna and Artem have plenty of free time after they were cut as professional dancers from the ABC competition, Dancing with the Stars. Sharna and Artem’s unceremonious axing ahead of DWTS season 28 has been viral entertainment news. Nigel is smart to scoop them up. For Artem, it’s his second appearance on SYTYCD. He choreographed a Viennese Waltz for the show back in 2011.
Sharna revealed the news in an Instagram story. Her DWTS ouster came after WINNING the show with Country radio personality and American Idol mentor Bobby Bones last spring. Artem had been a DWTS pro since 2014. He took his last minute departure especially hard.
“I’m about to head to my second rehearsal for So You Think You Can Dance because yes, I’m choreographing this week,” Sharna said in her Instagram stories. “But guess what, it’s not just me. I am choreographing with Artem.”
“We have teamed up and we are doing a routine for So You Think,” Sharna continued. “I can’t tell you what it is. I can’t tell you who it’s with, but I can tell you it’s a lot of fun and that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on it.”
Sharna and Artem will choreograph a routine for one or more of the So You Think You Can Dance Top 4 which includes contestants Sophie Pittman, Mariah Russell, Gino Cosculluela and Bailey Munoz.
“It’s wild that one door closes and then something else opens,” Sharna said. “Opportunities appear and how the universe works in wonderful, mysterious and magical ways and you just have to trust it.”
So You Think You Can Dance airs on FOX at 8 pm on FOX. Fun fact: The SYTYCD finale and DWTS premiere will air against each other on Monday September 16…
Despite leaving Dancing with the Stars, Sharna is still buddies with host Tom Bergeron.
