Empire Ratings Rise While American Idol Falls

Empire ratings RISE in the freshman musical drama’s 2nd week. A remarkable feat, as that rarely happens. Most new shows drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in the overnights in week two. FOX has a bonafide hit on their hands.

American Idol dropped vs last week. I expect the show will at least retain their numbers tonight. Idol 2 hour shows always fare better in the ratings. Next week, however, Idol cuts back to 1 hour on Thursdays.

Remarkably, Empire seems to be completely unaffected by its lead in. At this point, Idol could probably benefit if it moved to 9 pm AFTER Empire.

On FOX, American Idol earned a 2.9, down three tenths from last week’s 3.2 adults 18-49 premiere rating. Empire scored a 4.0, up two tenths from the 3.8 last week’s premiere earned.
