Dancing with the Stars returned to ABC with a 1.0 rating and just under 8 million total viewers. The showy new cast didn’t move the needle, however. It’s the same rating as the fall 2018 premiere which was watched by 7.7 million viewers.
Unfortunately, American Ninja Warrior edged out DWTS for the demo win with a 1.1 ratings, and several million fewer viewers (over 5 million). The show’s ratings have declined over the past two cycles, averaging 1.37 in 2017 down to 0.93 in the 2018 season.
Meanwhile, over at FOX, So You Think You Can Dance ended its season with a steady 0.4. That may seem like a low rating, but FOX is OK with it, apparently. The show promoted auditions for the 2020 season, Cut down to the bone production-wise, it looks like FOX has found a way to make SYTYCD profitable despite diminished numbers.
