DWTS Pro Cheryl Burke Files for Divorce From Matthew Lawrence

Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke has filed for divorce from Matthew Lawrence after nearly three years of marriage.

Cheryl submitted a petition for dissolution of marriage on Feb. 18 citing irreconcilable differences according to Los Angeles Superior Court records obtained by NBC News. The date of separation is listed as Jan. 7.

TMZ reports that the separated couple has a prenuptial agreement.

Cheryl and Matthew, who is most famous for his roles in Mrs. Doubtfire and Boy Meets World, tied the knot back in May 2019 in San Diego and had now children together.

The pair first met in 2006, when Matthew’s brother, actor Joey Lawrence, appeared on Dancing with the Stars. The couple began dating in February 2007, breaking up in 2008 and eventually reuniting in 2017. They got engaged in May 2018, when Matthew proposed on Cheryl’s 34th birthday.

It’s the first divorce both for Cheryl and Matthew.

Cheryl shared her highs and lows in 2021

Last year, Cheryl and her celebrity partner, Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby missed two weeks of DWTS competition after contracting COVID-19. Nevertheless, they eventually finished the season, which ended in November in 3rd place.

Cheryl has also opened up about her sobriety journey. She shared with Elizabeth Vargas on her podcast on October 2021 about her struggle with alcohol. “I’m definitely an alcoholic and addict. Absolutely. Yes, 100%,” she said.”It was survival mode constantly, seven days a week for me. I needed to just to get through this day,” she said.

“And now being sober for three years, it has really, wow, it’s been scary, but it’s been so enlightening at the same time,” she said.

At the end of 2021, Cheryl wrote a year end message on Instagram alongside a photo dump, which included photos of Matthew: “What a year. It wasn’t always easy, but it definitely wasn’t always bad.” she said. “And where there was struggle, there was growth and valuable lessons. Grateful for all of you, what this year brought me, and all of the beauty that came with it. Thank you to those who touched me.”
