DWTS Hires Ray Chew, Former American Idol Band Leader

When news surfaced that Dancing with the Stars dismissed the Harold Wheeler Orchestra and singers for recorded music and an “electronic” orchestra, it appeared that real live music was gone from DWTS. But not so fast. ABC has just announced that they have hired ex-Idol band leader, Ray Chew, to conduct a new lineup!

“Chew’s band will feature a new lineup of live musicians and singers performing music ranging from the latest pop hits to the great standards of the past,” ABC said.

DWTS executive producer Conrad Green said in a statement, “Live music is the lifeblood of ‘DWTS,’ and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with Ray and his talented band. Ray is one of the most versatile and dynamic musicians working today. It promises to be a spectacular season.”

Ray Chew, who lead the Idol live band for 3 years from 2010-2012, was replaced for season 13 by former band leader, Rickey Minor, when new producers took over the show.

It’s like a reality show version of musical chairs!
