Dancing with the Stars Rumor: David Archuleta approached to compete in a same-sex partnership
UPDATE a Confirmation?: Kristen REPOSTED this item today (Sept 11) with out saying much except mouthing the words “KEEP YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN.” It appears that she’s confirming that David WILL be on the show, but without being explicit. Hm…. Watch the new Tik Tok and judge for your self.
According to a rumor website which has a track record for being correct, Dancing With The Stars producers have reached out to a former singing show alum to join the cast. The person is not named in the item, but the clues fit American Idol season 7 runner-up David Archuleta.
DWTS insider, Kristyn Burtt posted an item on Tik Tok reporting that according to Bravo and Cocktails, “A former singing competition finalist (male) is in talks to be partnered with a male dancer. It’s still tentative as he’s not fully sold on the idea of another competition so soon after the last one, but his team is pushing for it.”

Kristyn warns that the item is a blind submission from a reader of the site, not from a trusted source. SO CAUTION. And as a blogger who has been following spoilers for almost 18 years, I can attest YES PEOPLE MAKE STUFF UP FOR FUNSIES.
Could David Archuleta REALLY be joining Dancing with the Stars?
Regardless, the last competition show David competed in was as the Macaw on The Masked Singer earlier this year. David came in second place then too. This spoiler almost sounds TOO reasonable, as if it were from someone very familiar with David’s career and background. It would be like David to proceed cautiously. Diving into another competition show within months of the last one would be exhausting. But what’s more, competing in a same sex partnership would mean dealing with trolls and and untold amounts of hate. David has shared extensively about his mental health struggles and the ways in which he protects himself. He’s all about self care, ya’ll.
Interestingly, Kristyn notes that The Masked Singer and Dancing with the Stars work with the same casting director. She feels it there is as strong possibility the rumor is true. But then again…TROLLS. So many trolls out there who lie. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Also, it’s worth noting, if the offer from DWTS is indeed real, and David turns it down, fans won’t hear about it unless David decides to spill the details himself.
Previous DWTS same-sex couples
Dancing with the Stars has had two previous same sex couples. The first was Jo Jo Siwa and Jenna Johnson for Season 30 in 2021. They finished in second place. The next pairing could be considered opposite OR same sex. Darius Jeremy Pierce, a cis male, partnered with Gleb Savchenko for season 31. However, he performed as his female drag persona, Shangela. If David were to compete on DWTS with a male partner, they technically would be the first male partnership in DWTS history.
Dancing with the Stars will premiere on ABC and Disney Plus Tuesday September 26. It will air on Hulu the next day. The celebrity cast and pro dancers will be officially revealed on Good Morning America on September 15.
