The Dish on Why Jennifer Hudson, Scooter Braun and More aren’t Judging American Idol

The Hollywood Reporter has posted a dishy article on why contenders for the American Idol 13 judges panel didn’t make the cut.

A summary:

  • Scooter Braun – The manager of Justin BieberThe Wanted and Ariana Grande was a personal pick of Jennifer Lopez, but Scooter said no deal unless he had first dibs managing the winner. And Simon Fuller was, like. AS IF.
  • Dr. Luke. – Jennifer did NOT want Dr. Luke on the panel, because she was afraid he’d show her up.  It wouldn’t take much, to be honest.  In the end, say sources, it was Sony who put the kabosh on the deal, due to a conflict of interest with Idol label, Interscope. Dr. Luke runs an imprint at Sony.
  • Jennifer Hudson – Her deal to sit on the panel was all set…until Jennifer Lopez came back into the picture.  JHud got a $2 million consolation prize. Which is pretty good work, if you can get it.
  • Benny Medina, David Foster, Rodney Jerkins –  Creator, Simon Fuller, producers David Hill and The Den of Thieves REALLY wanted a non-celebrity industry professional to sit on the panel. It wasn’t to be, as the panel consists solely of singers: Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr.  Benny Medina is Jlo’s manager, and he either made a pitch for himself, or was approached and not interested.  David Foster has guest judged Idol and worked with many alums, including Kat McPhee and Ruben Studdard, to name just a few.

Why is Jennifer Lopez all over this post? SO MUCH HATE.
