David Hasselhoff “In Talks” to Be American Idol Judge (Report)

The latest American Idol rumor? New York Daily News is reporting that David “The Hoff” Hasselhoff is in talks to join the judges panel:

Insiders say that reps for David Hasselhoff have been in talks with ABC and production company Fremantle about that possibility. The Hoff was a hit as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” but lost his contract in 2010.

“David is interested in the role and his management have made contact with the show’s executives with a view to working out a deal,” says a source familiar with the situation.

The Daily Mail source is obviously David Hasselhoff’s publicity agent. And the key phrase here is “his management have made contact with the show’s executives with a view to working out a deal” meaning Hoff’s management has reached out to ABC, not the other way around.

There was a reason Hoff lost in America’s Got Talent contract in 2010. His judging was cringeworthy.  ABC may be operating under a tight budget, but I don’t think they have to resort to hiring D list celebrities to cast the show. But his publicist begs to differ:

“David goes in and out of favor in Hollywood, but at this moment he is red hot,” according to a separate TV source.

Think of it this way, Hoff. You’ve already made your major contribution to the American Idol legacy. You can rest easy now.
