David Cook Is Mentoring The American Idol Top 8 This Week (UPDATED)

American Idol season 7 winner, David Cook, tweeted this intriguing photo today:

That’s clearly American Idol XIII contestant, Sam Woolf,  in the shot. It looks like David is in rehearsal with him, perhaps giving him some advice?  Sam was nearly eliminated last week, before the judges bestowed their one and only save on him. The young singer could definitely use some guidance at this point.

David Cook would be the perfect mentor for 80’s week. Maybe he’s advising the Top 8 on how to make a mark on Idol  David had his first watercooler moment of the season he competed during 80’s week when he sang “Hello” by Lionel Richie.  That performance caught the imaginations of Idol fans, turning David into an instant contender.

Although featuring some excellent voices, Season 13 contestants have struggled with stage presence. Exciting performances have been few and far between this season.  Hopefully, David can help.

UPDATE: American Idol producer, Patrick Lynn, confirms that David WILL be mentoring the Idols this week!

“Toughest Mentor yet is on the show Wednesday.” Patrick posts on his Facebook, “David Cook (@TheDavidCook) chimes in as, “The Mentor” to the Top 8 this week.”
