  1. I love this song. It’s so “David.” I really can’t wait to hear the whole album!

  2. Very different and I like it much better than the acoustic version. I think Jive isn’t spending time and money promoting David. In my opinion I think they’re waiting for him to grow up a bit more to start promoting him in a different genre. They know they have a future gold mine with David.

I can’t even guess what is going through Jive’s mind at the moment. But why do you think they would not promote him now.. if they wait and only do a so-so job now they will have to start all over again when album 3 comes out. What genre do you think they are waiting to put him into.

  4. I love the studio version of elevator..,so david vibe, lol!!! Love it soooooo much! Can’t wait for the whole album now!!!!

  5. Like the accoustic version better, with the studio version the Jason Mraz feeling I though the has is gone… oh well… just hope it isnt the second single….

  6. I love Archie, but does he sound really nasally on this song? Almost like he has a stuffed nose? Not in the chorus, but in the verse. It is a cute song, but a bit oddly produced, IMO. I’ll have to check out the more Mrazzy, acoustic version, as I think I might like it. I prefer Something Bout Love.

  7. Thanks MJ!

cruzceleste:…just hope it isnt the second single….

Yeah, hope it’s not the second single. Why are they sharing Elevator with a radio station when David’s current single is supposed to be Something ‘Bout Love? SBL is SO MUCH better.

I love David but this version of Elevator doesn’t sound good. The chorus sounds off somehow. The background vocals don’t sound in sync with the rest and the beat seems slowed down. Kind of like something one would hear in an elevator, sorry to say. The song starts out kind of bouncy and mellows out oddly at the chorus.

Focus on SBL and market the heck out of it. What happened to the video? Is it going to be on MTV/VH-1 as Jim Cantiello indicated awhile back?

  8. What happened to the video? Is it going to be on MTV/VH-1 as Jim Cantiello indicated awhile back?

I think Jim said that it would be on MTV/VH1 after they blur out some logos. But that was about three weeks ago. Didn’t know it takes so long to do this. God knows MTV has had lots of experience blurring things out on its Reality shows! Just another strange part of the rollout of this song.

  9. The studio version sound a little better than the acoustic one, but please Jive don’t make this song the second single , SBL is a lot better and deserve better promotion, don’t drop the ball yet with SBL , OK? .

I don’t dislike the lyrics , are fun and catchy, but the chorus part is a big not for me, even if the ‘UP\DOWN’ part is so catchy. And they can do better with the production. David has a great voice, why they can’t do justice with good melodies and production?…….well i’m sure they have better melodies for the rest of the album :).

Note : his voice sound a lot better on the Eman bubble tweet ;)

  10. I love “Elevator”! I think it’s a great song…very quirky and very David. If quirky songs like Train’s “Soul Sister” and “If it’s Love” as well as Jason Mraz’s songs have done well on the radio…I don’t see why “Elevator” can’t….I think it’s better than those songs.

  11. Sorry Archie, this is not good. I actually thought SBL was a cute little pop song but was confused by it’s rollout. This song sounds like it should be in a kindergarden class as a singalong. And you can’t even tell he can sing.

Well, if anyone read my posts yesterday, I said I was the worst single chooser in the world, so maybe this will be a hit. Best of luck.

  12. “I love “Elevator”! I think it’s a great song…very quirky and very David. If quirky songs like Train’s “Soul Sister” and “If it’s Love” as well as Jason Mraz’s songs have done well on the radio…I don’t see why “Elevator” can’t….I think it’s better than those songs.”

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement and his velvety vocals are easy on the ears imo in this quirky song.

Trying to catch SBL on radio has me listening to some trash being played these days.

  13. Whoever wrote this stupid song should be fired and the record company has to be crazy to actually think this silly song is going to be a hit. I wasn’t a fan of SBL and this song is even worse. If this is an example of what’s on the album, David is going to be in serious trouble.

  14. Love Elevator….. the studio version and the live version!

Someone mentioned it sounded a little like Sugar Ray and well it does have that vibe it seems to me?
HMM… the studio version…. I might say it reminds me of the studio version of TMH? Simplistic yet fun, young and oh so David!

No idea whether it should be the next single as I am still hoping SBL will be promoted with more radio and TV!
Hey… David is on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon this weekend….. wonder if he will do both?!
    Hope so!

  15. I like the studio version of Elevator better than the acoustic one. I did not like it at first but after hearing the studio version I do like it now. It is different and it is David. I like SBL too and do not understand why that is not a big hit. I agree that alot of songs on the radio are trash. His songs are better than anything I hear on the radio.

  16. I love this song. It took me a couple of listens to Something Bout Love before I warmed up to it but this one I loved right away. That said, I sure hope they know what they’re doing if this is the second single, which btw, no one said it was. Doesn’t sound like anything out there on the radio which could be a really good or really bad thing.

    ITA!!!!

I don’t think nobody can say, if the song gonna do well or not on the radio, the lyrics on the top40 radio station are not exactly GREAT,at all lol . But we can say if we’re happy with it or not , specially if people are thinking that Jive gonna drop the ball with SBL to push this song :|
So not the lyrics are not the problem. the problem is the vibe of the song and doesn’t sound like David’s voice fit and work very well on it, that little chorus is painful to hear, like you’re waiting for his voice to crack at some parts.

  19. I like SBL, and I think it really deserves better radio promotion than what Jive’s given it so far. Elevator, though… I’m surprised the high notes in the chorus sound off even in the studio recorded version…

  20. I’m not a big fan of Archie’s music, but I actually like this. Not a big fan of the chorus, I like it better on the acoustic performance, but I like the groove of this in general. Especially the falsetto parts. Oh, I don’t care for the bridge much, but the verses are great.

The falsetto parts remind me so much of Mika.

  21. 1. That capture of David on the youtube imbed at the top of this thread is the worst picture of him ever. Even worse than the Crush single cover. He’s so cute; how can he look so bad there?

    2. I like the song, but it’s a lot of falsetto for David. He doesn’t have much grit in his head voice at all. That said, I think it’s catchy and really pleasant. Feels like a little roller coaster of a song.

    3. I wonder why he let them play it? To get feedback from us?

  22. lol I actually like elevator. since I first heard it. but then again i probably have weird taste. I like tmh and also parachutes. lol

Btw I dont think anyone said it was going to be a single… so. lol that bridge gets crossed when we get to it. lol.

  23. frogcooke, I agree nobody said but I saw where the DJ said it was his new song and that David gave it to them to play. I smell his label testing the waters. I dunno. What I do know is that the waters are gonna have sharks in them with this song.

  24. well a new song, meaning, one that practically no one has heard, so its a new song… from his cd lol. they could be testing it. who knows. but hey i like it.

Then again, people seem to be falling over themselves liking Cee Lo’s new FU song, and i dont like it at all. *shrugs* lol

  25. I don’t like most songs on the radio but I could usually count on Archie, Kelly and Carrie to give me something pleasant to listen to. This thing just hurts my ears. Seriously, do you think it’s a vocal worthy of his talent? Is it not like the worst vocal he’s laid down on recording? I’m not being mean, just keeping it real. That false is really bad.

  26. I agree with kimk, Elevator really has a Sugar Ray vibe, both in terms of lyrics and in terms of being super catchy. Reminds me of Every Morning. I like Elevator alot, especially the lyrics. It’ll be fun trying to figure out what this song means. I’m starting to think that all the songs in the new album will have multiple meanings and lyrics built on metaphor. Pretty impressive for a new writer like David. His talents clearly extend beyond singing. I doubt this will be the next single but would not be upset if it is. When he sang it during the radio station visits, it got a pretty positive reception from the the DJ’s and the audience.

  27. I love the song, every morning.

btw keep in mind this is a LQ clip too. so its not gonna sound the best. Fun fact, wpro also played She’s Not You, that demo that leaked a while back, that was a left over from his first album. I dont think them playing Elevator really means much. Just that the station are obviously fans.

  28. I love this song, tho i think the background vocal is bit weird. Whoever used this picture must really hate David .

  29. The more I listen to this song the more I love it. I like it better than SBL, though I like that one too. I don’t think it should be the next single (at least not until I hear the other songs on the album) but I really like this song. I know some people hate it but I find it refreshing.

  30. I absolutely adore this song! Fun, quirky, uplifting, very catchy and very David. David helped write this song along with most of the songs on his upcoming album. I am thrilled about that and can’t wait for his new music! I think David sounds great all the way through the song, there is nothing wrong with his vocals. He sings it the way this kind of song should be sung. love the subtle effects in the song and the whole vibe of it. This is becoming a very popular song among David’s fans since he first introduced it, even a lot of the DJs are liking it. It is so refreshing to hear David’s music…very unique, inspiring, fun, with actual meaning in the lyrics (unlike so many songs you hear on radio today). I say BRAVO DAVID, LOVE THIS SONG, KEEP EM COMING!
    Thanks for posting the song.

  31. Like the quirkiness of it— so David. Will wait to hear a quality version before I criticize the vocal quality of it.

It is stuck in my head. That’s a good sign….

    Can’t wait for the album!

  32. Elevator = David stepping outside of the narrow box people keep trying to put him in? Although the vocals are not what we are used to hearing from David, this song certainly sounds worlds better than a lot of the noise that my local Top 40 station is trying to pass off as music and it does stick with ya. I like Elevator, BUT, I hope Jive is not giving up on SBL already. It’s hard being a fan and not understanding the ins and outs of the music industry :(.

  33. wow, this sounds so bad. is this supposed to be his second single? good luck with that, he’ll need it.

  34. This is bad. What is going on here? They are wasting a talented kid with this crap.

  35. I love the strong opinions that this song is evoking, positive and negative. Reminds me of the initial reaction to Crush. It also reminds me of discussions about popular Top 40 songs on other boards. No song is liked by everyone. Maybe Elevator should be the second single?

  36. I love Elevator! I like that it’s fun and quirky. It’s not meant to be a message song, just something fun. Listening to it over & over!

  37. Personally, i’m enjoying the hell out of Elevator! The song is fun!! I love how the song starts with David’s deep smooth vocals and then kicks into a beat that goes up and down and all around.

I think Elevator has a similar vibe to Bareilles’ King of Anything and Caillat’s Bubbly in the sense that it’s just different and I love that about David.

  38. I have supported David with every product he’s put out,but I am beyond sickened with the songwriting and arrangement here-with this leaked single.Jive has tossed him songwriters who are horrendous-I don’t care if they have a reputation,or not.SBL has flopped on the Hot 100,has not even cracked it ,and that is his Lead single. And I could care that its done a little better on the Billboard Top 50 Pop chart-its a lesser chart.I am with some of the posters on this one-they have done a horrific job of promoting a Great talent-IMO… The songwriter(s)/producers should be flogged.

  39. Elevator seems to target the happy, quirky song demographic. David seems to like this type of song (Sara B., Jason M., Imogene) but it’s just not for him. He can do so much more! His head voice isn’t his best asset and he has trouble switching into it while staying on pitch. A bit of head voice is good for Arch, but Elevator contains more than needed. Stick with your strengths, buddy.

Perhaps the album will be testing the waters in several music genres? Not a fan of this song, but who knows. Hoping to see SBL rise with the album release in Oct.

  40. I really love this song. Obviously (as I’ve learned from reading this comments today lol) not everyone agrees but I think it’s super catchy and I found myself singing along with just the second listen.

I have absolutely no idea if this will be the 2nd single or if it would hit on radio. And I’ve decided that if I want to enjoy ANYONE as an artist, I need to stop stressing over charts and radio spins. What happens, happens — I obviously have no control over that. All I can do is enjoy the music that appeals to me. And this song does.

For David’s sake, I hope that other people will like his music and buy this new album (and I’m selfish and want a big tour lol) but for now it’s enough to know that I like it. Look at me trying to be all zen ;)

  41. I think this is a great song for Archie’s album because he really likes the song. He is trying something different and quirky and I give him credit for that. However,It should not be the second single because I do not think it would do well on radio or the charts. Also a lot of people do not like it. I really hope the album does well. I don’t think they should give up on SBL because it is a really good song.

  42. I think this song fits for live concert. It gets fans to sing along.

  43. I am a big David fan, but this song is not strong enough for a 2nd single. I do like the song and think it’s different and fun. I think SBL is better for the radio. Some fun catchy songs do make radio hits, but I just wonder if this is a song just to test the waters or if its the 2nd single? I like the acoustic version better. David is one of the best singers out there and I wonder if Jive is going to promote him or going to leave him out to dry like Jordin and Kris? Makes me so mad lol. I actually like all of his songs and buy his music, but for radio airplay he needs a stronger song.
