  1. It sounds really good, at least to me. certainly better than the hot mess that 2.0 was.

  2. Hey, thanks for posting! I like it! I’m latina and I do have to say it’s great! David amazes me in that he fits right in with these latino artists. That’s what I call talent! He’s too modest when he says he speaks very little Spanish! David, you sound great and you make our English community proud! AI, thanks for giving us this guy! He’s awesome!

  3. Wowza!!!
Only heard it once but the whole song sounds fabulous and WOW is that Carlos on the guitar?! Smokes it!!
even the rap isn’t bad at all!!!

    LOVE IT!
oh and David…. dang he sounds outrageously smooth like butter!!!!

  4. omg!!!!!this version is soooooooooooo awesome….chills all over my body while listening to the whole song….i love the parts of david archuleta..his voice is so smooth and so silky!!!!!very unique…!
great job david and to everyone in this version!

soooo proud of david archuleta!!!woo hoo!

  5. even the rap isn’t bad at all!!!

actually, me not being a rap lover, AT ALL, I really liked the rap parts. I found the random opera dude more bothersome than the rap! lol

  6. i aqree froggie lol!!!!

the opera guy is ott,imo..but the same, everything is awesome!!!

got chills…the whole rendition is so touching and moving!!!!

  7. Oh snap they took it down. I listened to that whole entire first mix for nothing, lol. Oh well I am sure it will pop up somewhere soon.

  8. I loved the Spanish language version of We Are The World (Somos El Mundo). David’s vocals are smooth as silk. He and all of the Latin artists did a great job.

Don’t miss the world-premier of the Somos El Mundo music video tonight (3/1/10) on the Cristina show which airs on Univision at 10 p.m. ET.

  9. David sounded great during his parts! I liked this version. MUCH better than the english remake and for some reason, the rap wasn’t annoying. I didn’t care for the opera dude either, but hey, everyone’s got their own style and it’s good to include them. I liked the shouting in the background during the rap.

  10. hey, it’s still there….i’m still listening to djafrica myspace (streaming)….it’s so beautiful!!!can’t wait to see the vid too….i will definitely but this on itunes…

    go david!!!

  11. hahaha…it should be “i will definitely buy this on itunes”…
    geezzzzz!

  12. I can’t wait to hear it! I’m at work with an old old PC that I can’t update to the latest Flash etc so I couldn’t listen while it was up. That’s OK – I wasn’t thinking I would hear it before tonight any way. Glad people like it!

  13. oh i see…i only hit backspace and not refresh…hmmm, makes sense lol!

  14. I heard it one time and went back to hear it again and it was gone. ha ha

I really loved it and I have been taking Spanish in class so yea it was great :)

There was so many great peeps there and David gets three parts. :) life is so good. :) :) :)

  15. Love this version. David sounds fantastic! Can’t wait to see it @10 pm eastern on Univision. Plan to purchase to help Haiti. Hopefully we’ll see promotion to help Haiti and now Chile too.

  16. i lurves it :) i’m with you frogcooke – much better than the english remake… the blend of the diverse voices and vocal styles is just right, even opera guy doesn’t detract much from the overall fine production. david, david, david, lol…. in spanish, hammercy, lol… all for a good cause, so i’m pleased.

  17. I’m very happy that David was included in this, and even moreso that we can hear him solo in 3 places. The lyrics are posted in Spanish at another site and I tried reading and following them while the song was playing. I thought I had a tiny grasp of the language, but geeeeeeeez, my Spanish stinks! LOL

Nice song, well done, good cause, etc. etc. etc. :)

  18. Yeah, lol at my Spanish too. It is beautiful-even the rap-I love all the voices and that guitar solo is cool. Hope it raises lots of money for Haiti, David singing in Spanish…I’ll have to get a few extra copies.

  19. Wow…David Archuleta sounds AMAZING! I really like the song…I don’t speak Spanish but I like the song and will be buying it on iTunes! So happy you can hear David’s voice a couple times during the song – his voice is just so smooth! David is just a phenomenal singer/songwriter (and soon to be author of his own book “Chords of Strength”). The whole group did an amazing job! Love it! and it’s for such a great cause!

  21. Great job Archie! The Spanish version is good. I could do without the rap but it does blend together better than the English version. I would love to hear Archie sing the entire song by himself. :)

  22. AAAAAGGH! Go David! That’s about all I can say right now. Wow. Soo proud of him!

  23. for the vietnamese fans… don’t you love it when these things go global – i hope this version reaches millions and adds more funds to help the haitian relief efforts… thankful david’s voice was added to the mix in this historic recording..

  24. from billboard.com…
    =======================================

The atmosphere at Miami’s Bongo’s restaurant, perched on top of the American Airlines Arena, was almost festive as an endless stream of Latin acts began to file inside. They were there to record “Somos el Mundo,” the Spanish-language version of ” We Are the World,” and, heeding the spirit of the cause and the directions on the tip-sheet, there was little fanfare surrounding their arrival.

Artists had been instructed to be accompanied by no more than two people, and they paid heed to the instructions, arriving to the parking lot below, many parking their own cars, then waiting patiently in line to take the elevator upstairs. There, they mingled in a small waiting room as they signed posters and two guitars donated by Gibson, which would all be auctioned off a later date.

The only camera in the room for the session in the early evening of Feb. 19 was from the “Cristina” show, slated to premiere the video of the song in early March. Artists were then taken to a small red carpet that led to the basketball court where the Miami Heat trains, and which the arena provided for the shoot. There, against the simple backdrop of several gigantic posters with the “Somos el Mundo” emblem, some 50 artists (see full list below) stood in a semi-circle, lyrics in hand, and in less than two hours, with renditions getting increasingly more enthusiastic, the song and video were a wrap.

  25. Wow. I downloaded the video just now and expected to like it all right — especially David’s parts — but I like the whole thing. Think it was very well done and I can’t believe that I’m really liking the rap, too.

  26. Gotta say, I’m so much more impressed with the Spanish recording. Production seems better. Better voices. Even the rap/electric guitar bridge sorta works! haha! They paced it well so it doesn’t feel as schizo and pieced together as WATW 2.0. It is downright joyful toward the end. Well done!

    And, yes, David sounds wonderful.

  27. ita houston – this session had more passion, and the mix of voices blended together much better… i enjoyed the rap part too – pitbull was looking all kinds of fine, and spitting fiyah, lol… i think version will do very well ;-)

  28. Oh David Archuleta You are just so great. Nice guy amazing voice and I can only wish great great things for you in music and life. He is definitely on the right path. The more I think about it Season 7 & 8 produced a lot of super talented wonderful yet diverse bunch of artist and stars. I think both these years had the best all around talent. (I know season 5 has the most successful group but I really didn’t like all of them that much. only Daughtry, Elliot, and Katherine) But this is just my opinion. I guess For me Season 7 and 8 have are the group of artist that I have purchased the mos individual music. Just a passing thought. Anyway Great job David

Su voz es un regalo de los cielos usted canta como un ángel

  29. Definitely better than WATW 2.0.

The only thing that’s missing is the Cyndi Lauper’s (well, well, well, well) part. They should have included that, that’s one of the song’s highlight.

  30. I like it, this comming from a latin girl who hates translated songs…. but over all good… never gave the WATW 2.0 a second listen, thanks Justin Bieber, but this I can listen too… :)

  31. BTW, the “opera” voice is actually a mariachi voice he is Vicente Fernandez and he is and icon in Latin America, and before him it was Jose Feliciano, you know the “Feliz Navidad” guy… just saying…

I actually can tell who is singing every part, you should totally listen to Luis Fonsi, thats a great album…

  32. WOW!!
LOVE the song and the video….
Gosh David is looking and sounding amazing!
But everyone did an outstanding job and love the rap/guitar part!!!!

What a wonderful thing to do for such a great cause & hope it kills it on the charts!

  33. thanks for that info cruzceleste about the mariachi singer Vicente Fernandez… a little knowledge goes a long way in opening the eyes [and ears] :) they all did a great job on this song…

current ranking for the song and video on itunes is strong as well – the day and week is still young, and the need for aid to haiti continues…

  34. ‘Somos El Mundo’ Video Premieres, Stars Pitbull, Shakira, Juanes, David Archuleta, Daddy Yankee
    by Ayala Ben-Yehuda, L.A. | March 02, 2010 10:20 EST

The “Somos El Mundo” video premiered Monday night (Mar. 1) on Univision’s “Cristina” show, and much like its English-language counterpart “We Are the World 25: for Haiti,” it’s a star-studded affair.

Latin music stars like Shakira, Daddy Yankee, Juanes, Pitbull, Paulina Rubio, Thalía, “American Idol” alum David Archuleta and the Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo are featured, and the recording itself was orchestrated by the high priestess of Latin music, Gloria Estefan, and her husband, producer Emilio Estefan.

The biggest difference betwen “Somos el Mundo” and “We Are the World”? A much-appreciated absence of Auto-Tune.

  35. Waaayyy better than the English version! David Archuleta’s vocals are AWESOME!! LUV IT!

  36. I didn’t realize Ricky Martin has that soothing of a voice, chill inducing actually.

For me the standouts are Juanes, Rickey Martin, the girl with short dark hair in the studio, long black hair girl behind Talia, Luis Fonsi (HOT), John Secada and David Archuleta. David stands out not only for his unique voice and his youth but his good looks is noticeable in the crowd of beautiful people.

  37. Watched the video again. Never ever thought Rickey Martin and Archie would appear in the same video.

  38. I was so happy that David Archuleta got to lend his voice to this amazing charity/project along with all the other great artists. I was excited to see him and watch the performance — and for such a worthwhile cause!

  39. As a latina I’m very proud of this version, The Estefans did a very good job blending all these voices together.

The girl with short hair, I don’t know her full name, but her last name is Garcia. And the one with long hair behind Thalia it’s Natalia Jimenez the vocalist from the group La Quinta Estacion (The 5th Station).
