David Archuleta revealed plans for a new holiday album and tour on Wednesday (Sep 5).
The American Idol season 7 runner-up is set to release Winter in the Air on November 2. The holiday set, on Shadow Mountain Records, is David’s eighth album overall and second holiday release, following Christmas from the Heart in 2009, according to Billboard magazine.
David began recording Winter in the Air in Nashville back in January. “We had to cancel the original writing session because of a snow storm,” he told Billboard. After the weather cleared, David rescheduled the session with songwriters Jeremy Bose and Cindy Morgan and they penned the album’s title track “Winter in the Air.”
For Winter in the Air David’s goal is to, “Make people happy and feel the joy of the holidays,” he said.
More tracks include:
- He is Born – cowritten with producer Cason Cooley and songwriter Isabeau Miller
- Christmas Every Day – cowritten with Cason Cooley and Dave Barnes (Season 6 alum Melinda Doolittle makes a guest appearance on background vocals)
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen – A Spanish version
- In the Bleak Midwinter – A Spanish version
*A four-song EP of Spanish renditions will also be released.

The singer shared thoughts with Billboard on his life has changed since competing on American Idol in 2008: “When I was on American Idol I was still in high school and was just getting to the beginning of adulthood. Now I’m an adult. I have found my voice and I say what I’m thinking. Taking that two-year break to be a missionary helped me gain independence. I was submissive before. Now I put more importance on myself. Ten years ago I didn’t know if I wanted a music career. I thought I was going to finish high school and college and then figure out what I was going to do for a living. Now I understand why I want to do music and where I want to take my life. I always handed things over to other people. Now I am the master of my own life.”
David plans to take the “Winter in the Air Tour” to cities in California, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, New York, and Connecticut.
