  2. omgosh!
so excited for him just to be there to help out &
to be there with such great entertainers!
If he does perform I hope he does ‘Prayer of the Children’?

  3. Good for David. He’s such a sweet guy and always finding ways to be service-committed.

  4. I too would love to hear him sing Prayer of the Children, he needs a well deserved break in this music business. His voice needs to be heard :D

  5. cracking great news – so pleased to see david lending support to this cause, and being a part of something that really matters… per the link below…

  6. I don’t think he’s scheduled to sing is he? But wouldn’t “Save the Day” be awesome!! and Prayer of Children!!

  7. That’s great news! And I love the picture of David MJ posted. Hee~

i think it’s from the kaleidoscope appearance back in november – the skating show that aired on fox to aid women dealing w/breast cancer…

  8. If not Prayer of the Children, how about Save the Day?

trying to manage my expectations about him singing anything, but if it happens, either of those two would be perfect…

  9. I will buy any song he sings on this program from Itunes on this sat. ..

  10. So excited for this effort! Knowing that David Archuleta will be joining the lineup of other concerned, caring artists makes me proud & happy. David is always ready to offer a helping hand…it’s his giving spirit! As mentioned by so many posters before me, there is a song he sang during his Christmas Tour called “Prayer of the Children” that would be a fitting tribute to this worthy cause…would love to hear him sing it.
    SHINE ON, DAVID!

  11. If David sang “Prayer of the Children” on the telethon, it would bring in a lot of donations…and there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the world. ;)

  12. some other ways to aid the haitian relief effort…

Hope for Haiti” will begin accepting donations at 12 p.m. ET on Friday:

    -Online: http://www.hopeforhaitinow.org
    -Phone: 877-99-HAITI
    -Text: Text “GIVE” to 50555

-Mail: Hope For Haiti Now Fund, Entertainment Industry Foundation, 1201 West 5th St, Suite T-700, Los Angeles, CA 90017

  13. He’ll look adorable answering phones with Selena Gomez!

Seriously, his song Prayer of the Children would be an amazing thing to hear during the telethon. Very moving. But with people like Madonna and Will Smith w/Muhammad Ali, I think David might be taking down pledges, which is still a great contribution.

  14. Celebrity-Gossip and Just Jared Jr. are also reporting that David will be participating at the telethon.

And about 3 hours ago David himself tweeted this…
DavidArchie: Doing some last minute packing lol.

All very good indications that this news is true.

  15. Wow,i am so thrilled for david…to be a part of this cause worthy event is really great and what a privilege for him to lend a helping out to the haiti people.even just answering the phone is a great way to reach and show compassion for other people….how much more if he could give a very heartfelt rendition of prayers of the children….that would be really awesome !just saying…..!

    Thanks for posting!

  17. Latest Archie Tweet:

Sometimes I wish I could just wear the same thing every day. Cartoons do it. It’d make things a lot easier.

    Cartoons do it. ROFLMAO!!! :)

  18. Sometimes I wish I could just wear the same thing every day. Cartoons do it. It’d make things a lot easier.

awwwww, this is SO cute :)

  19. This will be a good concert and hope it raises lots of money and awareness.

Also, Adam Lambert’s guitarist Monte Pittman will be performing with Madonna.

  20. Great news. Knowing David,I’m sure he feels honored to be asked to help. I hope he gets to sing Prayer of the Children or Imagine..or whatever is meant to be. In any case he’ll do a good job and attract many callers and donations. I’m Looking forward to seeing all the celebrities gather for such a great cause. Bless all of them and especially the people of Haiti.

  21. the ”we are the world” remake has me stoked… i hope it raises a ton of cash for the relief effort…

Madonna Joins ‘Hope for Haiti’, Lionel Richie Planning “We Are The World” Remake

BY: GLOSS STAFF | First Published: Jan 21 AT 2.27 pm

  22. jambajim: Ooh! I see @DavidArchie is now involved with MTV’s Haiti telethon. Awesome! (I *may* have had something to do with this booking.)
    6 minutes ago from UberTwitter

DavidArchie: Headed to the airport. Watching my mom and sister jam in the car to a song on the radio.
    2 minutes ago from txt

  23. if he did ozarka, kudos to jambajim!

It’s very possible. He is after all right there at the MTV headquarters and he doesn’t seem to be saying so in a jesting manner.

    ETA: Another tweet from Jim:

jambajim: Oh dear. @DavidArchie’s team reached out to me personally. If any other Idol’s followed suit, I would have hooked them up, too. #DeepBreaths
    23 minutes ago from UberTwitter

  24. jambajim: Not sure. But it’s Archie so he’ll probably sing while manning phones regardless. :) RT @archftw Is @DavidArchie singing or manning phones?

  25. david’s feeling pretty good on his way to the telethon…

Man, I’ve never had just a simple hi said to me so many times before. People are in a really good mood today at the airport lol.
    4 minutes ago from txt

    DavidArchie

  26. David, you’re such a do-gooder. :) Hope he has a great time meeting some of those big celebs. I’m sure the experience will mean a lot to him.

And I hope it raises mountains of money for the people of Haiti.

  27. Update: Katharine McPhee has been added to the Help for Haiti telethon according to Katharine Fans…

That’s nice. David will have someone familiar to hang out with. They’ve worked together before, on the Kaleidoscope TV special. Coincidentally, it was also a charity event.

  28. I’m so glad that he’s getting a chance to help. He’s a special young man with a gift to move people with his voice, so he would be perfect to perform here.

  29. Yaaaay! Soooo happy to see David on TV again, and I just knew he’d want to get involved with Haiti somehow. I’d give almost anything to see him perform (esp. POTC), but it’s not likely to happen. Whatever part D plays, I know he’ll be happy, and we’ll be proud.

  30. Also wanted to add that I’m so sorry there was a need for this telethon in the first place.

  31. I am thrilled Kat has been invited to participate at Hope for Haiti. Kat has always been willing to help others who are less fortunate. Her Mcphee Outreach built a pre-school in Africa, currently working with Pound for Pound Challenge program in the fight against hunger in America, & hasteamed with a charity to help children in Haiti.

A fan recently did a montage, Dedication to Haiti, very touching and heartbreaking.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l6cZKZP5-g

  32. Well with Kat there we know it won’t be limited to A or even B list celebrities. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Katharine’s current career consists of an album that has sold 20,000 units and will probably be off the BB200 in two weeks. She has also had a small part in one movie and I guess some TV shows. But she is very, very pretty and obviously has a fantastic agent. :)

On one hand I admire the determination to succeed. On the other I wonder how someone with such little actual success still gets such excellent gigs.

  33. LOL MJ. Good call on the photo switch. haha!

Also wanted to add that I’m so sorry there was a need for this telethon in the first place.

    Amen, archie17, Amen.

  34. Yay Katharine!

There are so many great singers. Can’t wait to see it.

  35. gg-re: “people at the airport in a good mood today” it wouldn’t occur to David that people are happy to see him and his smile. I’m sure he is
thrilled to be asked to help out. And I’m just glad he’ll be there.

  36. Even though they will probably be manning the phones (perhaps manning/singing on the phone, besides Prayer of the Children or Save the Day, how about Somebody Out There (here done as a thank-you tribute by the children of India (Rising Star Outreach) to David A.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILEwfkFTlQ4

  37. Somebody Out There (here done as a thank-you tribute by the children of India (Rising Star Outreach) to David A.

that would also be a great choice cmom…

  38. On one hand I admire the determination to succeed. On the other I wonder how someone with such little actual success still gets such excellent gigs.

I don’t think it’s a gig for Katharine McPhee. She’ll be a volunteer worker, like most of the celebrities.

  39. it’s all about haiti – david, through his record of charitable actions and causes is a perfect and logical choice to be asked to participate… his actions speak far better than any of us ever could about where his heart lies… if you care enough to check it out, and want to really see disgusting, go read some of the ridiculous tweets jambajim has received from fans of other idol alums, attempting to turn the haiti effort into another silly, disgusting fanwar… i’m proud david is reaching out, serving in whatever capacity he’s been asked to serve in…

  40. I’m just glad that people are stepping up to help. That’s a good thing. Many people are feeling devastated by the situation, and have different reactions I think.

  41. I don’t think it’s a gig for Katharine McPhee. She’ll be a volunteer worker, like most of the celebrities.

Yes. I don’t think it’s a gig for any of them (as you stated). These people are doing what they can do to help. They are celebrities and they have gifts they can use to inspire others. I’m sure they are devastated about what’s happened and are using their tools to help. It’s a good thing.

  42. george clooney and mtv are doing a yeoman’s job in pulling this thing together… read more about his, and others efforts to coordinate and pull this telethon for haiti together at the link…

Within Days, a Global Benefit Takes Shape

    By MICHAEL CIEPLY
    Published: January 21, 2010

LOS ANGELES — Quicker than you can tie a red, blue and yellow ribbon — the symbol of concern for Haiti — celebrities rose to George Clooney’s call for a telethon to aid that nation’s earthquake victims, to be shown Friday night on a hundred networks and myriad Web sites around the world…

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/arts/television/22telethon.html

  43. Thx. GG–that was an interesting read. From the article:

Another problem, he said, is explaining to celebrities who are eager to help that only a few of the 130 who are expected will actually find room in a program that can accommodate 18 performances and 18 speakers. The rest will help staff a celebrity phone bank, through which thousands of lines are being channeled.

Wow–it’s going to be busy in those cities.

  44. DavidArchie: Hey all, tomorrow I’ll be answering phones taking pledges for Hope for Haiti. Tune in, and call in to help how you can!
    10 minutes ago from txt

David, don’t let one person monopolize you on the phone like they did during Idol Gives Back 2 years ago. Hahaha!

  45. Definitely consider this rumor for now. There is someone on Twitter with connections to the telethon who says there’s a chance that David will be performing…

Disneylover13: JUST HEARD THAT DAVID ARCHULETA WILL BE SINGING PRAYER FOR THE CHILDREN FOR HOPE FOR HAITI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disneylover13: @wicklessscents friend of my moms is working on the event in LA that’s where David will be she saw Prayer for the Children next to his name

Even if he doesn’t get to sing, there will be a lot of people tuning in just for the chance to see him at the phones. His presence alone will help raise monies for the cause.

  46. Oh my. The moment I heard David’s name connected to the event I thought Prayer of the Children was a natural choice, but I just didn’t see any real possibility of him performing giving the big names attached to this. I’ll keep telling myself that, for my own sanity. haha!!

Whatever the case, good luck to all involved. It’s a wonderful cause. I, like most, have been following the story, and the situation in Haiti is incomprehensible. The poverty coupled with the earthquake has created a tragedy the likes of which I hope we don’t see again, though I know we probably will unfortunately. The stories of the children have been gut wrenching to watch and read about.

  47. Oh my indeed. Wonder where Kendra is? Nothing can speak for the
plight of the children better than this prayer sung by David.

  48. Glad to see some AI alums will be participating in the telethon relief effort. It disturbs me a bit that from the reports it seems some celebs (or their agents) are angling for exposure instead of genuinely wanting to help. I’m more impressed by people who do things quietly and without fanfare.

The ‘We Are the World’ remake is more than a rumor. The lighting crew for this were booked long before the earthquake in Haiti occurred.

  49. Glad to see some AI alums will be participating in the telethon relief effort. It disturbs me a bit that from the reports it seems some celebs (or their agents) are angling for exposure instead of genuinely wanting to help. I’m more impressed by people who do things quietly and without fanfare.

there will always be those in any crowd, or tragedy such as this, who will seek to exploit it for their own gain. sad, but true… i’m not going to presume to judge the motivations of any individual stepping up and wanting to be involved in this particular cause, because the unspeakable devastation and death of untold thousands in haiti overshadows the desire to question the motives of the many who have genuinely stepped up, answering the call to offer help in many ways… every dollar raised via this telethon has the potential to save some lives, and restore some measure of hope and dignity to this devastated country and its people… my hope is that the cynic lurking in us all can be quelled long enough to support this cause, and the people involved in it, on behalf on those affected by this tragedy… kudos to david, katharine and all others willing to work on this behalf.

  50. Glad to see some AI alums will be participating in the telethon relief effort. It disturbs me a bit that from the reports it seems some celebs (or their agents) are angling for exposure instead of genuinely wanting to help. I’m more impressed by people who do things quietly and without fanfare.

Unfortunately there will always be a subset of people in Hollywood, like Lindsay Lohan and Heidi Montag, who don’t do anything without an ulterior motive. I think George Clooney is pretty savvy and will probably steer clear of those who want to be part of this to shine their image or get publicity. It will be equally disgusting if fan groups start scouring the iTunes charts, waiting to see if their favorite got a bump from the Haiti telethon. That’s every bit as tasteless.

Regardless, kudos to our AIers (and all the celebs) for participating.

  51. It will be equally disgusting if fan groups start scouring the iTunes charts, waiting to see if their favorite got a bump from the Haiti telethon. That’s every bit as tasteless.

i agree with you there niall… this should be a time when the better half of our human nature comes to the fore… competitiveness and that other meaningless stuff has no place in what’s going down today, tomorrow or the next day…

  52. George Clooney explains ‘Hope for Haiti’ celebrity phone bank

    Jan 22, 2010

“There are about 130, 140 actors and athletes and singers that are all just coming up – not to be on the show – simply to answer phones,” George Clooney tells MTV’s Sway Calloway about tonight’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon.
