Listen to “Proud of Your Boy” the song Glee star, Darren Criss, will perform as part of ABC’s special Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 years.
The song, by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, didn’t make the cut when Disney’s Aladdin movie came out in 1992, but it has made it’s way back into the musical version, now playing on Broadway.
Darren is a perfect fit for the special, which is about Disney’s many successful Broadway productions. Not only has he starred on the Great White Way–in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying in 2012–but he’s no stranger to Disney classics. Before Glee, when he was just a Youtube star, the singer was known, among other things, for his charming acoustic Disney covers.
As if he were arranging the song for a Youtube flip, Darren keeps the arrangement is simple, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar.
The special, airing Sunday December 14 at 7/6c PM, is hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and also features performances from Elton John, Nashville‘s Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen, Broadway Mary Poppins star Ashley Brown, and Aladdin’s Adam Jacobs.
