Darren Criss Lands Major Role in Ryan Murphy’s “American Crime Story”

Glee star Darren Criss has booked a huge part in his old boss, Ryan Murphy’s upcoming project Versace: American Crime Story.

Criss will play Andrew Cunanan, who killed five people, including fashion designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his home. He then killed himself on a house boat eight days after murdering Versace. Cunanan’s crime spree took him all over the world.

Versace will be the 3rd season of FX’s American Crime Story anthology, following the award-winning People V. O.J. Simpson and the upcoming second season that will revolve around the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

It’s a pretty meaty part for Criss. Considering all of the awards the O.J Simpson installment of Crime Story has garnered, it could be a huge break for the actor.

Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez will play Gianni Versace.

Criss also appeared in a few episodes of Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel playing an annoying hipster who gets his comeuppance. He just wrapped filming in Vancouver for a guest appearance in the Flash/Supergirl musical crossover. Another Glee reunion with Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist, Criss plays another bad guy–the Music Meister.

Despite what’s been written in the tabloids, Lady Gaga will not play Donatella Versace, due to time constraints.

Versace begins production in March, but is not expected to air until 2018, and not until after the Katrina installment.
