Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars continues tonight with dances to songs from Oscar-nominated films and a double elimination!
Last week’s premiere saw 13 couples make their ballroom debuts, and while there was no elimination, some couples have already stirred up dance floor drama, like Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber’s romance rumors and everyone’s obsession with Anna Delvey’s blinged out ankle monitor.

DWTS 33 Spoilers: Oscars Night Dance Styles and Song Choices
Alfonso announced that last week’s premiere was the show’s “most-watched premiere in years.”
Jenn and Sasha – Tango – “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” (The Great Gatsby)
What a modern Tango. Why are we doing jazz in the middle? And a cartwheel. Definitely a unique take. The parts that were traditional Tango, Jenn nailed the frame and posture.
Carrie Ann says Jenn’s such a surprise and then notes apparently the music wasn’t playing loud enough in the ballroom (it played fine on TV). Derek gives her advice on the placement of her elbow and the act of placing her arms. Bruno says she danced like a “sassy, glossy, mischievous little kitten” and the parts that were good, “were brilliant.”
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Bruno- 7 = 19/30
Eric and Britt – Waltz – “The Godfather Theme” (The Godfather)
Love Eric’s sparkly jacket! This song is perfect for a traditional Waltz. While Eric hasn’t mastered the technique, he did a great job performing this dance.
Derek says he loves that it was simple and smooth and was impressed with his arms despite a few footwork issues. Bruno attempts to judge in a Godfather voice before going back to his hyper self and notes there wasn’t enough rotation. Carrie Ann says she had a difficult time scoring because she saw improvement from last week.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek-4, Bruno- 5 = 15/30
A/N: when was the last time we saw a 4 paddle??
Danny and Witney – Jive – “The Danger Zone” (Top Gun)
This song feels too slow at times for a Jive but I’m really impressed by Danny’s ability to keep up with the steps. Kicks and flicks weren’t perfect but he kept up with the pace.
Bruno says he was off like a jet fighter and notes a moment of turbulence but a splendid ending. Carrie Ann compliments his growth from last week and says it was on fire. Derek says he felt the need for speed and it was a big improvement from last week.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno-7 = 21/30
Anna and Ezra – Quickstep – “Suddenly I See” (The Devil Wears Prada)
While Anna’s doing a great job at the acting portion of this dance, it took a while to get to the actual Quickstep, and when they did, it didn’t appear as if she was really dancing. She just not extending her movements throughout the whole dance.
Carrie Ann tells her to fully embrace this because she has beautiful lines and is holding back. Derek says there were a few technical things and asks for more energy. Bruno says it was a proper, classic, elegant dance and she needs to believe in herself.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 5, Bruno- 6 = 17/30
Chandler and Brandon – Rumba – “What Was I Made For” (Barbie)
This gal’s got beautiful lines. Arms are half the dance and Chandler knows her stuff when it comes to arms. Seemed like a very quick dance compared to the others.
Derek says she was made for dancing and compliments every aspect of the dance, then gives her a tip on her underarm turn. Bruno says she made one of the hardest dances to do look easy. Carrie Ann says she created moments that touched us all and notes she’s going to do quite well this season.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30
Reginald and Emma – Paso Doble – “Ode To Joy” (Die Hard)
Love the concept of Reginald going back to his cop routes, but unfortunately he just doesn’t dance so much as he simply steps. Great choreo on Emma’s part.
Bruno says he’s starting to defrost and he needs to extend more. Carrie Ann says he’s baby stepping his way to a 10. Derek says you can’t help but root for him.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 4, Bruno- 5 = 15/30
A/N: There’s the 4 again.
Stephen and Rylee – Paso Doble – “Superman Theme” (Superman)
Stephen is one of those rare times where he’s got great arms, but struggles in the legs and steps area. That knee crawl walk!!!
Carrie Ann says it was golden and compliments his likeability factor. Derek says he’s charming on the dance floor, but there were a few pieces of cryptonite to work on. Bruno says he’s got energy, but needs to learn how to control it and finesse.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 22/30
Joey and Jenna – Rumba – “Shallow” (A Star Is Born)
So impressed with Joey. He really nailed the passion of a Rumba and aced the steps. If he could master Latin motion, that dance would have been pretty perfect.
Derek calls him a leading man, but reminds him to watch his free arm. Bruno says it’s hard for a man to lead a Rumba, but he did it. Carrie Ann says he’s got momentum that usually doesn’t come until later in the season.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 22/30
Phaedra and Val – Foxtrot – “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” (Dreamgirls)
Good lines, good frame, great choreo. She really hit each step.
Bruno says he’s got a feeling this Dreamgirl is here to stay and she applied their notes. Carrie Ann says it was touching and she can channel her emotions into power on the dance floor. Derek says she oozes sensuality and it was beautiful.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 21/30
Tori and Pasha – Rumba – “This Is Me” (The Greatest Showman)
Absolutely beautiful routine to a beautiful song, but Tori is very stiff. Her lines aren’t one hundred percent. She almost looked uncertain a lot of the time.
Carrie Ann says she took a risk and opened her heart. Derek says he loved seeing her enjoy the moment and loved her spirit. Bruno says she was totally into it and embraced it, but it wasn’t perfect.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 6, Bruno- 6 = 19/30
Dwight and Daniella – Waltz – “City Of Stars” (La La Land)
Dwight’s so impressive and Daniella did a great job managing their very uneven frame due to their height difference.
Derek says he was blown away by how smooth it was. Bruno says it was light, caring and graceful, but mentions an issue with the footwork. Carrie Ann says it made the impossible possible and says they should experiment with other types of hold going forward.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 7 = 22/30
Brooks and Gleb – Quickstep – “9 to 5” (9 to 5)
This might have been the most fun routine of the night. Brooks really nailed not just the story of the dance, but the steps and the hold.
Bruno says it was good in hold, but notes she went wrong at the beginning. Carrie Ann says she has gorgeous lines, but mentions she has a tendency to rush. Derek says she has all the ingredients but it needs more time baking in the oven, then mentions to Gleb that it looked like a Tango hold in the Quickstep.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 6, Bruno- 7 = 20/30
Ilona and Alan – Salsa – “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” (Dirty Dancing)
One of the most iconic songs to dance to. Lacking Latin motion, but there’s definitely improvement from last week. Ilona flipping Alan made me scream, that was the best! And they nailed the Dirty Dancing lift!
Carrie Ann says it was amazing and a moment people will be talking about for years, and she’s restructuring the conversation on what feminity is. Derek compliments her confidence and personality and notes her hip action. Bruno says it was musical and smooth, but to be careful with the dismounts.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 21/30
The double elimination happens after the break!
The bottom three are… Anna and Ezra, Reginald and Emma and Tori And Pasha.
The two couples going home are Anna and Ezra and Tori and Pasha.
When Julianne asked Anna what she’s taking away from the competition, she simply said, “Nothing” and that was the most awkward moment ever on this show.
DWTS won’t be on next week, so meet me back here for two nights of dancing on October 7th and 8th!
