Chris Daughtry Visits Kelly Clarkson Sings ‘Heavy is the Crown’ (Video)

Chris Daughtry on The Kelly Clarkson Show

Once again, American Idol alums unite on The Kelly Clarkson Show! American Idol OG winner Kelly Clarkson invited Chris Daughtry to chat for a bit on her afternoon talk show, before his band performed their latest single, “Heavy is the Crown.”

The song is Daughtry’s first single as independent artists. Chris is one of the last American Idol alums to end the label deal signed after coming off the show. The rock singer came in fourth on Season 5 way back in 2006.

Conducting the interview remotely, Chris talked about being off the road for the first time in years. It’s been both weird and liberating for him. “Life is so good,” he said.

As far as the song is concerned Chris shared, “We’re all stars of our own movie…we’re the kings and queens of our own castle…there’s so much pressure on…just to live, especially these days.” Also, Chris talked about the difficulty of “carving your own path without conforming to what everyone else thinks is normal.”

Kelly added, “I love the message, and I love that it’s deep. I think a lot of people relate, especially after this past year and a half.  Heavy is the crown, especially if you’re responsible for your family. There’s a lot going on, financial crisis, mental health is an issue right now, people lost their jobs, it’s a lot going on right now.”

After Chris and the band’s intense performance of the song, Kelly mentions that a new album from Daughtry will be out later this year.
