Tuesday Daily Number’s Thread – 12/22/15

Today’s thread are brought to you by the numbers 1,2, 8 and 161,000.

The newly crowned Voice winner sets a couple of records on the Christian charts (where he should really be headed if anybody at the label has any smarts and Levine hasn’t filled his head with dreams of Pop superstardom). Jordan Smith becomes the first act to own the number 1 and 2 spots on the Hot Christian Songs chart. “Mary, Did You Know” tops the Digital Songs chart as well selling 161K. “Climb Every Mountain” is sixth with 67K and his duet with Adam “God Only Knows” is 11th at 50th. “Somebody to Love” drops 72% in sales to 46K (14th spot) and “Hallelujah” was down 6% to 26K for 43rd.

“Mary, Did You Know” also makes its mark on the Hot 100 entering the chart at 24 and coming up second on the Holiday 100 (every year, Mariah Carey dominates that chart with “All I Want for Christmas is You”). “Climb Every Mountain” hits the Hot 100 at 72, “God Only Knows” arrives at 90 and “Somebody to Loves” clings in there for 99th. Leaf, a poster over at Pulse points out that he nearly set a record for a drop on the Hot 100 while still staying on it. “Somebody to Love” dropped 78 slots this week (21-99) and only one artist has dropped further. Original Recipe Voice winner Javier Colon dropped 79 spots with “Stitch by Stitch” (17-96).

Meanwhile, Adele tops the Hot 100 for her eighth week with “Hello” which is her own personal record. That’s also the fourth longest a song has debuted at number 1 and stayed there. Canadians continue to hog 7 of 10 slots in the Hot 100, but their grip is sliding. Bieber has his usual three spots in the top 5 with “Sorry” at number 2 while “Love Yourself” and “What Do You Mean” switching spots for 4th and 5th (“Sorry” becomes his second song to hit number one on the Pop radio charts after “What Do You Mean” became his first and becomes his first number one on the Streaming chart). Drake holds steady at third with “Hotline Bling” while The Weeknd’s “The Hills” drops to 7 (his “In the Night” moves up to 12 – will it get to the top 10 in time to keep his run going?), Alessia Cara’s “Here” holds at 8th and Shawn Mendes “Stitches” falls to 9th. Selena Gomez makes the biggest move with her “Same Old Love” moving from 9th to 6th. Meghan Trainor holds steady at 10 with “Like I’m Going to Lose You” featuring John Legend.
