Country music stars, including Scotty McCreery and Carrie Underwood, read mean tweets on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday. Mean tweets are a Kimmel staple. Stars reading sarcastic takedowns of themselves is funnier than you’d imagine, especially when they’re cracking up as they read.

“Gross. I just thought of Scotty McCreery,” read the Season 10 American Idol winner. While season 4 winner, and CMA Awards co-host, Carrie Underwood, read a tweet that presents a persuasive example of why why reading is fundamental. Stamp out illiteracy, y’all.

More scathing, yet hilarious tweets:

“You ever get so drunk, you said a Luke Bryan song wasn’t that bad? Me neither.”

“Some of my best friends are black, but Darius Rucker sucks ass.”

“Marijuana works wonders. Just look at Willie Nelson. Bastard is still alive and won’t die.”

Rascal Flatts do us all a favor and stop making music. You are so awful. #sobad #spareus #sounds of death.”

During the show, a “hologram” of Jimmy was beamed to an audience watching at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, post CMA awards, while a performance of Little Big Town was beamed back to Los Angeles, in a country-music themed show.
