Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, & Casey James nominated for American Country Awards

The 3rd Annual American Country Awards, FOX’s attempt to get in on the country action with a fan voted awards show, announced their nominations this morning. Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, and Casey James represent Idol alums in the nominations. Keith Urban and Blake Shelton also appear among the nominees. Check out the FULL list of nominations after the jump!

The American Country Awards are basically an excuse to get country acts together to generate TV ratings. The nominations are purely numbers based with an eligibility period that appears to have ended in spring 2012. They may not mean anything as awards, but one good thing about them is that the show, which will air on December 10th on FOX from Vegas, gives the opportunity for some acts other than the usual suspects to perform in primetime. Could we see nominees Lauren Alaina (New Artist) or Casey James (Music Video Of The Year: New Artist) getting a performance slot at the show? Casey James is likely to have a t20 hit single at the time, and wouldn’t that be nice promo for him during the holiday shopping season? Carrie Underwood, whose fans have voted her to 10 ACA wins, is up for 4 trophies. She’ll be in between concert dates in Toronto, Ontario and Columbus, Ohio on the night of the ACAs and may fly in as a nod to her history on this show and ties to FOX.

Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan leads all nominees with 7 trophies as his rise to country superstardom begins to show. He is followed by Lady Antebellum and Zac Brown Band (6 nominations apiece) and Eric Church and Taylor Swift (5 nominations apiece).
