American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood will make her debut as a guest performer on tonight’s (Dec 14) The Voice 21 finale.
The country star will join coach John Legend to sing their duet “Hallelujah” from Carrie’s Christmas album, My Gift. Ahead of their performance tonight, Carrie joined John on his social media series “Trailer Talk” which he posts sporadically during The Voice season.
The two chatted about how both will head to Las Vegas this spring to perform in hotel residencies. Carrie shared about her Oklahoma upbringing and the spirituality that influenced her to record an album of Christmas music and a set of beloved hymns.
That “other show”
John mentioned that Carrie won “another show” without mentioning “American Idol” by name. He even mentioned that Carrie and The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson are the most successful singing show alums. And he also mentioned they both came “from another show.” Just say it John!
After John noted that Carrie and coach Blake Shelton hailed from Oklahoma, he revealed a surprise for fans. Carrie and John would duet on Blake’s first big hit “Austin.”
“I was thinking it would be cool to do something country and you had a great idea,” John said to Carrie.
“I know that this show is all about friendly competition amongst the judges and I feel like because you can sing anything, I would love to hear your voice on something country, so I think we should sing a Blake Shelton song and you should show him how it’s done,” Carrie teased.
It didn’t take long after John uploaded the clip for Blake to react. He wrote in the comments section, “Damn y’all…,” he wrote. For once Blake is speechless.
Catch Carrie and John’s Hallelujah duet on The Voice 21 finale, tonight (Dec. 14) on NBC at 9 pm ET/PT. A winner will be revealed!
