During a sit-down interview on The Ty Bentli Show last week, American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood became emotional after hearing fellow country artist Miranda Lambert support her winning the CMA Entertainer of the Year award.
Carrie will co-host the CMA Awards on ABC Wednesday night (Nov 13) alongside Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. She’s up for the EOTY award, as well as Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year for Cry Pretty.
During the interview, Ty played a clip of Miranda praising Carrie in an interview on the Kix show. It was the first time Carrie heard the interview. The singer became visibly emotional as she listened.
“It’s really cool,” Carrie responded to Miranda’s kind words. “She’s always been just super supportive and super sweet.”
Carrie teared up when Ty asked her about the possibility of winning the award.
“First, I’m kind of emotional,” says Carrie. “It’s a nomination for all of us. It would definitely be, ya know, not just a win for all of the things that we’ve been doing, all that stuff that [Miranda] mentioned that I’m so lucky and blessed enough to do, but you know, you watch other women in this industry do the same thing, you know, it’s . . . I don’t know what I’m trying to say.”
She went on to gush over her Cry Pretty tourmates.
“I watched Maddie & Tae and Runaway June, and I saw all of the stuff that they did everyday just trying to move forward and trying to get more and more people to notice—they’re so stinking talented,” said Carrie. “They have great songs, and I’m like, ‘You guys work harder than anybody I’ve ever been around in this business.’ They did not have days off. They were out hustling. I feel like we have so much talent, we just need some more open doors, and I don’t want any woman to feel like they can’t do everything—they can’t have this life, and have a family and have all of the things going on together and do what they do. We’re all in it together. If there’s one incredible thing that’s happened from all of this talk about women in country music, it’s the fact that I feel like we’ve all banded together. We all understand—we’re the only ones that can understand because we’re women in this business. They don’t know what it’s like to be us. We lift each other up. We support each other. Miranda didn’t have to say any of that stuff.”

After the CMA Nominations announcement, Miranda shared her thoughts on each nominee, saving her most effusive praise for Carrie.

Its fall weather in Nashville! Sitting here on my porch, I realize with the chill in the air that it’s getting closer to Nov which means my birthday month and @CMAawards final voting time. Entertainer Of The Year is the big one So I’m gonna share my two cents. ?Keith- a friend and a hero of mine. He took me on tour in 2005. The first big tour I ever got to be part of. He belived in me when I was a baby artist and I will be forever grateful. ?Garth – In Pieces. My first cassette tape I bought with my own money from doing chores. My first concert, Texas stadium 1993. The beginning of a twinkle in my eye. It was life changing. ?Eric -one of the best songwriters of all time in my opinion. He turns a phrase like no other. I’ve had the pleasure of writing with him and he is someone that will push say something in a different way. ?Chris- the kind of voice & songwriting that makes you want to quit, and work harder. A sound that can’t be beat. Period. ?Carrie- The Entertainer Of The Year. Because… Currently being on tour with all female artists, I’ve been thinking a lot about all the work that goes into what we do. The most amazing job in the world. But it ain’t for the faint of heart. @carrieunderwood is on an all female tour too. The Cry Pretty Tour 360. She put out her first single in 2005 and from then on country music was changed for good. That iconic voice has been classin’ up our stages, charts and televisions for a decade and a half. The Voice. The legs. The songs. The brand. The mom. The wife. The okie. The Jesus lover. The blonde bombshell that is Carrie. She blows me away every time I hear her sing. She never wavers in who she is or what she stands for. She has stayed true & pushed herself to be better. If you have never heard her sing “How Great Thou Art” do yourself a favor and listen. I have her back in this picture and I’ll always have her back. So for the sake of sequins, spanx and spray tans, take it home! You Carrie the torch! ?#Carrieon #EOTY
