The mag posted detailed descriptions of the Top 7’s performances, but without naming the songs.

What do you think the Idols are singing tonight? Check out the clues after the jump. Read more at People.

Ooh, I hope Crystal is singing “People Get Ready” like I suggested! Uh oh, Siobhan. I hope Casey is feeling better…

Spoilers after the JUMP…

CRYSTAL BOWERSOX: Dressed in black, Mama Bowersox started off a cappella, filling the soundstage with warm, soulful vocals. There was no guitar this week, but her mic stand and her swaying body were all the props she needed.

SIOBHAN MAGNUS
: She took a run-through to get her voice warmed up and struggled to grasp all the notes at first. But she asked the band to slow her song down “just a hair” before really diving into that high octave she’s known for. After adjusting her orange framed glasses, her stance relaxed on the third run and she drew in the crew, who hung on every note.

LEE DEWYZE: He was the only contestant sitting on a stool this week. Casual in a red hat and Chuck Taylor sneakers, he sat strumming his guitar while a group of musicians played a piano and string instruments beside him. Particular about how his song opened, he opted for a stripped down piano entry, which built with backup singers and heavy guitar.

TIM URBAN: With a tune fit for a sweeping love scene in a Nicolas Sparks film, Tim’s turn was slightly predictable, but fulfilling. Always excited to be on stage, he grinned while playing his guitar in front of the judges’ table and sang soft, yet steady notes.

MICHAEL LYNCHE: The comeback kid rocks this week. Not taking his save for granted, the papa worked his guitar, starting out slow and soft, then winding it up and bringing the tempo to a level we haven’t seen from him yet.

CASEY JAMES: Tipping his dark blue fedora, Casey warmed up on his matching blue electric guitar. With three braids in his hair that were done by a friend the night before, he joked that he’s sure he’ll have “quite a fro” on performance day when he lets those braids out. Despite coughing and blowing his nose, Casey was all smiles while singing with all of his raspy might. Be ready for a electric guitar highlight.

AARON KELLY: Using a bit of visual aid in this week’s performance, Aaron threw his arm up at the exact moment his song called for it. But he didn’t move from his position on stage this time, sticking to middle center and delivering strong vocals on each take.

  1. Crystal.. thank you for putting down the guitar this week. :) Maybe I can get behind you now.

  2. the only song i’m sure of is tim’s “only hope”, sung by mandy moore in “a walk to remember”, a film adaptation of a sparks novel. considering it’s a super easy song to sing, it’s probably it, considering his streak of choosing songs containing 4-5 notes. good going teflon tim!

  3. I’m so excited to hear Crystal. I love her guitar playing but I’m glad she’s going to perform without any instrument tonight. She has such a beautiful voice and I’ve been wanting to hear more of it on it’s own.

I hope all of the crap that’s been flying around these past few days doesn’t adversely affect her performance. CRYSTAL, just sing your face off – that’s all you need to do. AND, unplug yourself from the internet for the rest of the competition.

  4. I’m so excited to hear Crystal. I love her guitar playing but I’m glad she’s going to perform without any instrument tonight. She has such a beautiful voice and I’ve been wanting to hear more of it on it’s own.

I’m hoping she can make a clearer connection with the audience throughout her song if she’s doing it without the guitar. Will be interesting to see.

  5. Crystal without a guitar! I am intrigued.

    Casey might liven it up!

Micheal bringing the energy! He might be the only one tonight.

Is it possible they will make inspirational week NOT boring? Come on guys, bring it!

  6. “Just a hair” Is Siobhan singing Aquarius? Aaron’s sounds like he’s doing a coronation song.

  7. Aaron Kelly is probably doing one of the country ballads, maybee it’s Anyway?

Siobhan is doing Holding Out for a hero? That is the song that calls for big high notes.

Lee is probably doing “The Boxer” but that’s more on previous information than on this spoiler.

It’s strange that both Big Mike and Casey are choosing to rock out when there are only a few song on this list that allow it.

It’s hard to guess what Crystal is doing, it could be a lot of songs based on the description

  8. Lee is probably doing “The Boxer” but that’s more on previous information than on this spoiler.

I’ve been expecting him to do “The Boxer”, too, but now I’m wondering. I’m trying to imagine it with piano and strings. I just hope he nails it, whatever he sings.

    I love these early clues.

  9. Tim’s gonna sing “Only Hope”? OH MAN. :(

    Uh oh, Siobhan.

My sentiments exactly. OMG, please don’t struggle in the live performance Siobhan. Please….

  10. Awww, I was really hoping that Lee would do “Drive” but that song would sound horrible with all the extra strings and piano.

There’s also gonna be a lot of slow/sparse then build this week… Crystal, Lee, Siobhan (well, if you count the high notes as a “build”), and Mike’s spoliers all sound like it, anyway.

Tim’s gonna sing “Only Hope”? OH MAN. :(

    VFTW victory?

  11. Tim-Dare You To Move by Switchfoot because it was featured in A Walk To Remember written by Nicholas Sparks

  12. I disagree too MJ! The clue in Casey’s – be ready! I am hoping he does “People Get Ready” cause as I said before he is the only one capable of really pulling it off with the electric guitar! This is a perfect song for him – awesome guitar and raspy vocals! Woot! But, I could be wrong. Second choice “It’s My Life.”

  13. i’m going with Only Hope with tim’s song choice. it was also featured in A Walk to Remember. as for siohban….i’m still holding out for Go The Distance.

  14. Spoilers tonight, yay!! I like this season, and I’m excited, I just can’t help it.

  15. I’m thinking “Anyway” for Aaron – didn’t Kristy throw her arms up when she sang it?

  16. Aaron – not looking good. This kind of week is a massive trap for him. Just when he needs to liven things up and not be so old…

  17. Aaron – not looking good. This kind of week is a massive trap for him. Just when he needs to liven things up and not be so old…

I think it could be the same kind of trap for Siobhan.

There’s an awful lot of temptation in these songs to do them like somebody appearing on an Andy Williams special or something. All soar-y and schmaltzy and non-contemporary.

Aaron and Siobhan are the most in danger of that, I think.

  18. the only song i’m sure of is tim’s “only hope”, sung by mandy moore in “a walk to remember”, a film adaptation of a sparks nov

What makes you (and all these other people) think that is Tim’s song choice? This is like everyone assuming last week that Katie was doing a song Kat McPhee did because the guy said she reminded him of Kat during the performance…

He didn’t say that the song was from a Sparks movie, just that it could’ve fit right in.

  19. Using a bit of visual aid in this week’s performance, Aaron threw his arm up at the exact moment his song called for it.

What does that mean? Do any of the songs have a line about “I raise my hand”? lol or is Aaron just doing the dramatic arm raising that he always does, and it has nothing to do with the lyrics?

  20. possible casey songs that would fit from the list:

    We Are the Champions

People Get Ready (jeff beck and Joss Stone version)(Strong Fit from clues)

Don’t Stop – Fleetwood Mac (mild)

    Hold Your Head Up-Argent (mild)

I Just Want to Celebrate (very strong)

There are a few more but my best guess with guitar and the ending it has to be the last song “I just want to Celebrate” Go to youtube and listen. It has casey’s name all over it.

  21. If I am right with Rare Earth’s-I just want to Celebrate Casey might be the one to go home. I much rather him play “People get ready” as beck and Stone did. I’m praying that is the one. Gut tells me its the first one though.

  22. What does that mean? Do any of the songs have a line about “I raise my hand”? lol or is Aaron just doing the dramatic arm raising that he always does, and it has nothing to do with the lyrics?

Maybe a gesture with “You Raise Me Up”? I really hope Aaron doesn’t try tackling that Josh Groban song. It’s too big for him.

  23. Oh Aaron, if you are planted in one spot, can I hope you dont wiggle your hips at me this week?

  24. “Stripped down piano entry” doesn’t sound right for The Boxer. Somehow don’t think that will work, so I hope it is not The Boxer.

  25. Oh Aaron, if you are planted in one spot, can I hope you dont wiggle your hips at me this week?

Oh but Casey or Lee…if you’d like to wiggle I wouldn’t be mad.

  26. “Stripped down piano entry” doesn’t sound right for The Boxer. Somehow don’t think that will work, so I hope it is not The Boxer.

I know, if he was going to do The Boxer he would need some big fricking drums

  27. Now MJ can you ask your spy about the performance order because only one person hasn’t had the pimp spot yet, and I think they deserve to have it.

  28. Casual in a red hat and Chuck Taylor sneakers

CHUCKS!!! Sorry. I just think the world needs more Chucks. lol

Oh but Casey or Lee…if you’d like to wiggle I wouldn’t be mad.

I just spit Pepsi all over my screen. Anywho, I second that.

  29. Hoping Lee does the boxer, but I agree, stripped down piano doesn’t sound like it. Maybe Bridge over Troubled Water?

  30. I had high hopes for more stripped-down, acoustic Casey this week. Oh well. I’m not feeling good about this description, because no matter what rock song he chooses from that official list, even if Casey rocks the house, Simon will call it a bar band performance.

  31. Oh, I’m thinking Lee might be doing “Better Days” by The Goo Goo Dolls. It has a piano entry and heads into strong guitars in the chorus. :-) That song has awesome lyrics and he should do well with that and may just have that “moment.” <3

  32. I took a look over at Idol Ranges for the first time this year after reading so many criticisms about Tim’s limited range. I was curious. If the site is correct, Mike (9.5) , Lee (10) and Aaron (10) have shown less range than Tim this season and Casey is the same at 10.5 steps. I’m just looking at the guys.

Show Timmeh a little love, lol

*tries not to get hopes up*

If the site is correct, Mike (9.5) and Lee (10) have shown less range than Tim this season and Casey is the same at 10.5 steps.

I’m not surprised. I’ve been wanting Lee to show more range for weeks.

Show Timmeh a little love, lol

haha I agree! What are people talking about? Tim has a decent range. .

  35. Typical MJ Siobhan hate, mention the part about “uh oh” but conveniently ignore the part about everyone “hanging on every note”

ROFL jesus, why don’t you just say you hate her?

  36. Perhaps MJ doesn’t hate her, but just doesn’t care for her performances? Because I’m in the same camp. Why does she keep going for the freakin’ octave leap that she CANNOT HIT? Just sing. Sheesh. I feel a screech a-comin’. People get ready. Lol.

  37. I took a look over at Idol Ranges for the first time this year after reading so many criticisms about Tim’s limited range. I was curious. Show Timmeh a little love, lol

Tim has attempted a wider range, but that doesn’t mean most of those notes were successful, especially the high notes. Also, Idol Ranges has been seriously wrong about some people’s ranges in the past, it is not terribly reliable.

  38. Gosh MJ, why do you feel the need to throw Siobhan under the bus? I saw you ignored the part about “hanging on every note.” She was great last week also, but people are being Simon’s sheep thinking she is bad when she isn’t.

  39. I thought “uh oh” too but it was because Siobhan asked to slow it down. She has gotten the “sleepy” comment several weeks in a row and needs to pick things up this week.

  40. Oh, I’m thinking Lee might be doing “Better Days” by The Goo Goo Dolls. It has a piano entry and heads into strong guitars in the chorus. That song has awesome lyrics and he should do well with that and may just have that “moment.” <3

Good call, BigEFan! I hope you are right. Lee could do really wll with “Better Days”, and it’s more current than “The Boxer”. Fingers crossed that this is his song.

  41. They all sound great to me. I’m excited.

I like Casey playing the electric guitar. I’m a sucker for it, and it will distinguish it from the others if everyone else is slow. Also, he’s so talented on it and should show his “whole package”. ha. He’d be great opening for a big country act and he should be able follow at least a Kelly career (which has been great)

On a superficial note, because it is TV afterall, Siobhan and Casey need to do their own hair. I loved Siobhan when she did her hair with the flowers. She was so cute. And Casey shouldn’t do a blow out. I actually think he should cut it a bit.

  42. I actually think he should cut it a bit.

Mmmhmm. I don’t want him to end up looking like a prehaircut-Bo Bice. Casey’s too purty for that.

  43. Facebook-

American Idol Michael Lynche: tonight I’m dedicating my song to a buddy of mines daughter. She’s been going through chemo the last 2 years but finished in February. She has obviously shown tremendous strength and fight along with the whole family. This particularly hits close to home as she was diagnosed at the early age of 7 and makes me yearn to hold my little bubby bear as I write this. Tonight she is my inspiration. Love you guys!

  44. I actually think Tim has missed less notes this season than Lee has. Lee seems pretty consistently flat to me. He’s had two decent weeks for me, which is pretty on par with Tim. For me, for you.

  45. Aaron, Journey – Open Arms or Creed song that says arms wide open? But whats the theme? I guess that is up here somewhere maybe?

  46. Siobhan? “Just a hair”, Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In from Hair?

  47. Aaron-Dare you to Move by Switchfoot–based on the clue of him not moving . Maybe he raises his arm on “I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor”

  48. I believe Tim is going to sing “Only Hope” by Mandy Moore. It was from the movie/novel A Walk to Remember by Nicolas Sparks.

  49. I have no idea what some of these songs mentioned are. I guess I won’t find them karaoke!

  50. Hoping Lee does the boxer, but I agree, stripped down piano doesn’t sound like it. Maybe Bridge over Troubled Water?

The heavy guitar reference is curious, not sure how that would go with Bridge Over Troubled Water. Perhaps he might be doing something interesting with The Boxer? Just listened to a cover of The Boxer by Deana Carter in a duet with Paul Simon’s son Harper Simon, slow and a bit countryish, not too bad a version in fact, so maybe an unusual arrangement might work. We’ll see.

I have no idea what some of these songs mentioned are. I guess I won’t find them karaoke!

I find that to be the beauty of AI, some weeks I don’t have a clue what these songs are, so that makes me listen more for the vocal talent…

I don’t like riddles, so there is no way I am going to guess what songs the people are singing. I am not even coming to tonights live blog because I want to see it fresh (PST) without a bunch of opinion already…

  52. Probably is Dare You To Move, so Aaron can continue his tradition of doing songs previously done by previous popular contestants :p Please god I hope Creed is avoided. Ick.

  53. Can’t figure what they are going to sing tonight, but I do hope Siobhan can bring it. I’d hate to see her leave. Hope she goes with her own gut feelings. The judges and many on the blogs might not like it, but home voters early in this thing seemed to. Good Luck Siobhan!

Crystal will be good I am sure, as she always is.

Would like to see Lee falter (sorry!) because, well, because I don’t want a Crystal/Lee finale.

Timmeh remains SO interesting to watch, if just for the sport of it, lol.

It’s getting more down to the wire now which is making the show a must-see for me!!!!

Just noticed……..no “I love this cheesy show” line at the top of the blog anymore :( , but that’s sure how I see it, love it, lol.

Just noticed……..no “I love this cheesy show” line at the top of the blog anymore , but that’s sure how I see it, love it, lol.

Probably because of all the other things that have been added. I actually enjoyed the site better before the upgrade. Things seem to get stuck and move slower…not just here, but everywhere on the www because people are trying to cram as much extraneous garbage into a website as they can. It’s making the browsing experience a lot less fun (for me).

  55. Would like to see Lee falter (sorry!) because, well, because I don’t want a Crystal/Lee finale.

    You’re not forgiven. LOL

  56. I sure am not ready to watch dead-eye Lee again. I have never seen anything like it. Then his singing is just blank as his eyes. Maybe some guyliner will work. IDKnow.

  57. I don´t think that is the order they are performing. Crystal can´t go first again can she?

  58. seriously:

Would like to see Lee falter (sorry!) because, well, because I don’t want a Crystal/Lee finale.

    You’re not forgiven. LOL

    Nope, definitely not. ;)

  59. Sounds like we’re ready for a big treat tonight! I hope they all do a terrific job!

  60. Hopefully Aaron did well this week!’! Pimp spot!!!

Doubt Aaron will get the pimp spot…. We all know whose turn it is ;) haha

  61. Hopefully Aaron did well this week!’! Pimp spot!!!

That doesn’t necessarily mean that Aaron got the pimp spot.
It’s Tim’s turn for the pimp spot, though I doubt they’ll give it to him.
They might throw it to Siobhan because they want to preserve their “it’s a girl’s year!” thing.

  62. Someone found this online – we’ll see if it’s true.

Aaron Kelly: I’ll Be There, by The Jackson 5

Tim Urban: The Impossible Dream, by Frank Sinatra

Siobhan Magnus: I’ll Stand By You, by The Pretenders

Casey James: Don’t Sop, by Fleetwood Mac

Crystal Bowersox: Bridge Over Troubled Water or The Boxer, by Simon and Garfunkel

Lee DeWyze: The River of Dreams, by Billy Joel

Michael Lynche: That’s The Way God Planned It, by Billy Preston

    http://chapterchatter.wordpress.com…s-for-tomorrow/

  63. Oooohhh. That’s The Way God Planned It! I loooove that song! Mike would absolutely kill it!

I don’t know about that list but it does match their characters pretty well. Tim doing the Impossible Dream? OMG! Is that the equivalent of Kristy Lee Cook doing God Bless the USA, or Kat McPhee doing Somewhere Over the Rainbow? I wouldn’t be surprised if hes getting much the same crowd, plus all the young (and not so young) girls.
