Idol fans and pundits were critical of last season’s talent. Particularly the boys, whom many felt were cast as fodder to ensure a girl would win. Burnell, who went out in seventh place, was arguably the most talented of the boys. But it had to sting to hear his former mentor, Harry, praise the current crop.
It’s true, there have been weak performances on the Idol stage this year (that group number he used as an example, in particular. Oy.), but does Burnell really got to be so mean? The singer must have gotten some negative blowback, because he tweeted a little defensively a bit later:
