Bobby Bones Joins American Idol 2021 as Mentor, Gets Engaged

Scheduling issues kept Bobby Bones return to American Idol as mentor uncertain, but now, it’s official. Bobby will join the 2021 season.

The country radio personality will join  judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest on their journey to discover the next singing sensation on ABC. He will once again offer his industry expertise, helping hopefuls tap into their artistry and take their performances to the next level.

Bobby is host of the nationally syndicated radio show “The Bobby Bones Show,” which broadcasts to over 170 stations and is the No. 1 Country morning show with millions of weekly listeners. He’s also  launched his own podcast, “BobbyCast,” which features candid long-form interviews with top artists and industry figures and has been downloaded nearly 20 million times.

Additionally, Bobby is set to star and serve as executive producer in a new travel TV show titled Breaking Bobby Bones coming soon to National Geographic. Additionally, Bones won season 27 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and serves as host and executive producer of Opry, a weekly TV program airing highlights from the Grand Ole Opry stage on Circle Network.

When will Bobby join American Idol?

It’s the filming schedule for Breaking Bobby Bones that postponed the official announcement. Bobby has been on the road in the past weeks filming the series. Bobby recently said that he expected to join the show at Hollywood Week. But will he be able to join the judges who are currently taping the judges auditions in California? Bobby is in Virginia filming right now, so maybe not!

Open auditions continue

The search for the next singing sensation is currently underway with “Idol Across America” virtual auditions taking place on Oct. 20, 23 and 28. “Idol Across America” will give hopefuls the chance to showcase their talents from anywhere in America, face-to-face with an “Idol” producer. Entrants must be 15 or older to be eligible for “American Idol.” To sign up for “Idol Across America” and for full eligibility requirements, please visit

On a personal note, Bobby recently got engaged to girlfriend, Caitlin Parker.

“I am the luckiest,” writes Bobby on Instagram. “I waited so long for the right one. And it payed off. Surprised her with a secret proposal in the barn in the backyard. After she said yes, our song “nothing left to lose” by Mat Kearney was playing outside.”

  1. Yeesh. Looking forward to the show, not looking forward to more of the sameold same old ration of feel good phrases from Bobby…why? He can literally just phone-it-in. ?

  2. Waste of money IMO. He doesn’t really do a whole lot. But I’m excited that Idol is coming back.

With the auditions taking place in California, “You’re going to Hollywood!”‘ will sound a lot less fun. Lol.

  3. Not trying to be mean but I just don’t think he contributes anything to the show.

  4. It puzzles me why they keep him. Maybe they think he’ll draw country music fans?

  5. A few people mentioned some of the contestants said they liked him. Others mentioned some contestants said he was useless. That tells me he didn’t treat everyone fairly.

  6. Could be, or some people are wise enough to recognize a useless placebo when they are offered one…? I have not heard anything but, and TPTB have editing options – so that is likely all there is. ?

  7. Changing people effectively requires some effort and original thinking. That may be asking too much of Idol producers.

  8. No idea what they pay him but he’s overpriced with remarks like “ go out and do your best!” I’d enjoy him more if he tried to be funny and less sincere? I think that’s what he’s going for!

  9. Agree. And it will be interesting to see if they present Gabby as the new Idol’s career to aspire to instead of Alejandro. Would make sense but they were invested in showing some success for ABC Idols. But who knows, maybe they needed to stick with a Hollywood Records artist to highlight the most and they couldn’t go with Maddie or Laine.

  10. I agree. I could see a contestant who was needy and needed some handholding and comfort appreciating him. But if you brought confidence and performance ability to the table and were not interested in going country (some may think he is useful to them there), I would think he would have little to offer you.
