Billboard – Chart Date 01/16/2016

Lauren Daigle tops the Christian album charts with her album “How Can it Be”.

Billboard reports on the calendar year end and to nobody’s surprise, Adele has the top album of the year both in straight album sales (7.441M) and equivalent (8.008M). Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber take the new two slots. The top 10 for equivalent/pure album sales lists 9 of the same names with only Fetty Wap making the 10th spot on equivalents and Luke Bryan on straight sales. Three Brits are in the top 10 (Adele, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith) and 3 Canadians (Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Drake). Americans chime in with Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Sam Hunt and Fetty Wap/Luke Bryan. There are 7 albums that sold over 1M in pure sales this year.

Album sales are down 6% this year, without “25” it would have dropped 9 percent (it accounts for 3.1% of total album sales).

For singles, “Uptown Funk” ruled the charts with 5.529M with the song it blocked from number one coming in second again (Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”). Representing reality singing competitions is Voice judge Adam Levine whose Maroon 5’s “Sugar” took 5th spot. 61 songs sold at lest a million songs this year (82 achieved that in 82 and 106 in 2013).

As we all know, there are approximately 50,019 Billboard charts. This is a summary of just some of those charts and how the Idols/Voicers/XFactorers/Sing-Offers/AGTers did on them this week. Please feel free to post rankings from your favourite BB chart or any other numbers you care to share. This is the daily numbers thread.
