Big Brother 23 Eviction Results Week 1 Recap and Live Blog

The first eviction episode of Big Brother 23 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

Frenchie won HoH last week, and he’s had a chaotic reign filled with broken promises and shifting targets. He initially wanted to target Christian, but Christian won the Wildcard competition. Believing that Christian and Alyssa were becoming a budding showmance, Frenchie chose to target Alyssa instead. He put her on the block next to his chosen pawn Kyland. After realizing that Alyssa and Christian weren’t in a showmance after all, Frenchie decided to target Derek X or Travis. Derek X foiled Frenchie’s plan when he won the Power of Veto, but Derek X used the Power of Veto on Kyland. As a result, Frenchie named Travis as the replacement nominee. Frenchie promised Alyssa and Travis they were both safe from the block earlier in the week, but now they both face the first eviction vote of the season. Who will the house evict from the house? Alyssa or Travis? Let’s find out!

The episode picks up after the Veto Meeting. We hear from some of the Houseguests in the Diary Room. Derek X explains he used the Power of Veto to regain trust with Frenchie. Alyssa plans to keep laying low and securing the votes for herself. Frenchie says his ultimate goal was to get out a “meathead,” and he’s glad he can send Travis out of the house. Travis says Frenchie is a liar since Frenchie promised him safety when they moved into the house. Later, Alyssa chats to her Team Kings members Christian and Xavier. They both assure her she’s safe this week.

Frenchie wants to establish a core alliance called the Slaughterhouse. He first recruits Whitney and Xavier. Later, he adds Kyland, Christian, Derek F., Alyssa, and Brent. Frenchie believes this alliance can dominate, and the group gets together in the HoH room. Alyssa says this alliance couldn’t have come at a better time. However, Derek F. and Xavier admit in the Diary Room they are unsure about this alliance. Later, Frenchie approaches Hannah, Tiffany, Azah, and Claire for an alliance. Frenchie wants to cover his bases, but his plan isn’t working. All the women are agreeable with Frenchie, but they admit in the Diary Room that they are not falling for Frenchie’s plan. Hannah and Azah say that usually women start an all-female alliance, and they don’t need a man to start one for them. Tiffany plans to play along, but she believes Frenchie will be evicted from the house sooner rather than later.

It’s Kyland’s 30th birthday, and the house celebrates in the backyard. Travis wants to show the house he can be a fun guy even in times of adversity. He puts on makeup and does a striptease for Kyland. Later, Travis talks strategy with his fellow Team Queens members Tiffany, Claire, and Kyland. Tiffany advises Travis to offer himself as a shield to secure the votes to stay in the house. Afterwards, Travis campaigns to Brent and Frenchie. He promises loyalty and says he can be a shield for Frenchie. He also questions if Alyssa could offer him anything better. After Travis leaves the HoH room, Brent admits it’s a good argument. Frenchie agrees, and he says he can sway the vote whichever way he wants.

It’s time for the first vote and eviction of the summer. Before the vote, Alyssa and Travis can each make one brief statement. Alyssa first gives a shout-out to loved ones back home. She thanks the Houseguests for their support, and she reminds them it’s her birthday on Saturday. Travis takes off his shirt and gives shout-outs to loved ones back home too. He says he’s fallen in love with fifteen people at the same time. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

By a vote of 11 – 2, Travis has been evicted from the Big Brother house. He gives hugs to everyone on his way out. He sits down with his interview with Julie. Julie asks what went wrong, and Travis says “white guys with abs” are usually the first one out. Travis admits he tried to blow up Frenchie’s game before tonight’s episode since Frenchie lied about keeping him safe. Julie asked why he didn’t try to make more of an effort to form alliances, and he says he tried to create early bonds first. Travis later sees the goodbye messages. Among them, Brent confesses there’s an eight-person alliance called the Slaughterhouse.

It’s time for the HoH competition. The challenge requires them to hit a ball into the open mouth of a shark. However, there’s a twist. There are numbered spots on the ground. The higher the number, the more difficult the shot is. Before the challenge, they all must claim a number by entering it into a keypad in front of them. If another Houseguest claimed the number first, then they must pick another. The winner of the competition will be the Houseguest that sinks his or her ball into the shark mouth from the highest numbered spot. Julie instructs them to claim their number on their keypads, but there are apparent technical difficulties. We go to another commercial break before the competition begins.

All the Houseguests are in their designated spots. Alyssa is up first.
