Big Brother 17 Episode 37 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Big Brother 17 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

Tonight is a special Tuesday night edition of Big Brother 17. The Power of Veto competition will take place and someone will be evicted. Will the Veto be used to save either John or Steve? And who will be evicted in fifth place? Let’s find out!

While the HouseGuests are lounging around the house, Julie appears on the screen and tells the HouseGuests to gather in the living room. She announces that the eviction will take place within the hour, as well as the next HoH competition. They are all surprised by the news. Afterwards, we see the footage from the previous few days. Vanessa’s target is John, and she wants to make sure he does not want to win the Veto. Vanessa still feels bad about putting John and Steve on the block, and she cries about her decision to Steve. Meanwhile, John approaches Austin and Liz in the bathroom. He tells them he knows he’s the target. He offers to throw the Veto to Austin and Liz if they agree to break their word to Vanessa and vote to keep John. It’s a risky offer, but he wants to build trust with Austin and Liz since they’ll be the ones voting if nominations stay the same. Afterwards, Austin and Liz tell Vanessa about John’s offer. She’s just as baffled as them that John would consider throwing the Veto, but she has no qualms with it since she wants John gone.

It’s time for the Power of Veto competition. First they gather around the living room to see a preview of the new CBS comedy show Life in Pieces. The show will play a role in the competition. They will have to assemble a puzzle of the poster of the Life in Pieces show. However, they only have a small amount of time to assemble their puzzle pieces. They need to walk back and forth a balance beam to hit a buzzer within twenty seconds to keep their puzzle board magnetized. When they run out of time, the puzzle pieces will fall down. The first HouseGuest to complete their puzzle will win the Power of Veto. However, if their timer hits the negatives, they will be eliminated. This happens to Vanessa, as she is the first to be eliminated from the competition. As the competition continues, Liz gets close to winning the competition and John considers throwing it to her. However, he notices that Steve is close to winning too, so John decides to just go for the win. He is the first to complete his puzzle. John wins the Power of Veto!

After the competition, Vanessa has another meltdown due to her target saving himself. She cries about it in the diary room. Downstairs, John tells Austin and Liz he couldn’t throw it to them since Steve was getting close to winning. Meanwhile, Steve quietly celebrates John winning the Veto and says Vanessa made a big mistake targeting him and John instead of Austin and Liz. Steve wants to talk game with Vanessa, but she sends him out of the HoH room since she wants alone time.

At the Veto Ceremony, John decided to use the Power of Veto on himself. Vanessa named Austin as the replacement nominee.

Afterwards, John and Vanessa talk game in the HoH room. John tells Vanessa he is willing to vote out Steve. Vanessa tells him that she believes their chances at making the Final 3 is better if they keep Steve. Vanessa also shakes hands with John and they agree to go to the Final 3 together. John doesn’t want to do what Vanessa wants, so he is seriously considering keeping Austin. He goes downstairs and tells Austin that he might just be crazy enough to go to the Final 3 with a showmance.

It’s time for the vote. They give their pleas to the HouseGuests. Steve says it has been a dream come true to be on Big Brother and thanks them all for being part of the journey with him. Austin alludes to the Life in Pieces show as a metaphor and asks the HouseGuests to vote with their hearts. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

Liz votes to evict Steve.

John votes to evict Austin.

It’s a tie! Vanessa stands up to cast the deciding vote. She is holding back tears as she votes to evict Austin. Austin is evicted from the Big Brother house. Austin and Liz are visibly blindsided. Austin tells Vanessa she now has no chance at winning the game before he walks out of the house (without shoes on too). He talks to Julie and repeats that Vanessa has no chance at winning the game since she won’t get the jury votes for betraying him. Julie asks him about Liz, and he admits that he has fallen in love with her.

It’s time for the HoH competition. They must answer true or false to the following questions after seeing a clip of a HouseGuest. They must figure out the bleeped word in each clip.

Question 1: They all get it right.

Question 2: They all get it right.

Question 3: Steve gets it right.

Question 4: They all get it right.

Question 5: John gets it right.

Question 6: They all get it wrong.

Final Question: John and Steve get it right.

It goes to a tiebreaker question between John and Steve. The person closest to the number without going over will win HoH. They must guess how many seconds the last HoH competition lasted. Steve is closest to the answer, so Steve wins HoH.

And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Big Brother 17. Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for another live recap!
