A performer’s worst nightmare happened on America’s Got Talent Tuesday night when ladder climber, Uzeyer Novruzov, took a dramatic tumble from the top of a ladder as he vied, on live TV, for a spot in the finals.
Afterward, Uzeyer begged for 90 more seconds to try his trick again. But alas, there are no do overs on live TV, and as the reality of the situation dawned on the French acrobat, you could literally see his face fall.
After making sure he was OK, judge Howard Stern said, “The man is a masterful athlete. If anything, this points out to the audience at home, just how dangerous this is. It’s not a gimmick, it’s not a trick. This man does a balancing act that is, quite frankly, death defying.”
“You had a rough night tonight. I feel for you,” Howard said, in an attempt to console the clearly devastated performer. “What a shame to have this happen.” With 11 talented acts competing for only 5 spots, unless a slew of pity votes pour in, it’s unlikely Uzeyer will be able to advance to the next round.
“I know you’re disappointed, I know you’re hurting right now,” said Howard, “Just please be proud of yourself. You’ve been great all along.” Fellow judges Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel were also sympathetic. “Thank God you didn’t hurt yourself,” said Mel. Heidi asked one more time if he was OK. Uzeyer assured her he was perfectly fine, before asking one more time if he could try the trick again. Howie explained there were more acts to perform. There was no time. As host Nick Cannon explained how to vote for Uzeyer, the performer walked off stage, clearly upset.
