It’s time for some MAGIC on America’s Got Talent. On Tuesday’s (July 19) episode, Yu Hojin, who travelled all the way to America from South Korea, will perform his elegant sleight-of-hand tricks.
On this Auditions 7 episode, judge Howie Mandel has returned after being absent on the previous week’s show. He introduces Yu to the AGT audience.
The 29 year old explains that after finishing a two year stint in the army, he decided that he wanted the world to know “my name.”
Yu has been performing magic since 8 years of age, but his parents weren’t supportive. He kept his passion a secret, practicing his tricks in the privacy of his bathroom. Dad didn’t like Yu doing magic. However, finally, after five years, he found out Yu’s “passion of magic” and made a deal with him. “If I accept you do magic,” Yu’s father offered, “Can you be the best?”
It was a deal Yu more than happily accepted. “That’s why I’m here,” he declares. “Well, welcome to our bathroom,” Howie responds.
Yu’s routine involves pulling feathers out of seemingly nowhere, transforming them, making them smaller, larger and disappear, until they become small fluttering pieces. The presentation is beautiful and elegant. It’s mesmerising to watch! However, it seems obvious his very dense, black t shirt is part of the trick, as is the frame in which he performs his sleight-of-hand.
Afterward, Howie, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum are on their feet. Simon Cowell stays seated. He doesn’t look convinced. But, to find out what he’s thinking, fans will have to tune in to NBC on Tuesday July 19 at 8 pm to find out.
