Simon Cowell seemed especially pleased with this first night of America’s Got Talent semifinals. He ended the show, thanking the production crew for what he called one of the best AGT’s ever. No doubt, the show will continue to deliver impressively high ratings. For Simon, it’s gotta take the sting out of the terrible numbers that X Factor UK delivered over the weekend.

The spotlight continues to shine brightest on the singers. Scaled back performances from Yoli Mayor, Evie Clair, Chase Goehring and Mike Yung impressed the panel. But I think Chase and Mike have the best odds at advancing. Only five acts out of the 11 that performed will make it to the final set to air in two weeks. There will be many tears shed when all’s said and done after tomorrow’s results show.
Kid ventriloquist Darci Lynne is the Grace Vanderwaal of the season. She’s not only a sure bet for the finals, but she has a very VERY good chance of winning. Rollerskating siblings, Billy and Emily England upped the ante sufficiently this week to give them a pretty good shot at the finals. And then maybe the gospel choir? Or Preacher Lawson? Sara and Hero? The judges may use the Dunkin save to save a variety act if there are too many vote-getting singing acts.
