America’s Got Talent 2017 Semi Finals 1 Recap

After the typical lengthy recap, Tyra reveals that AGT received the highest number of votes ever! And, the acts that came in 1st 2nd and 3rd will go straight through to the final. 5, 6 and 7 will vie for the Dunkin Save.

OMG Chase Goehring, Eric Jones and Evie Clair are in danger of leaving the competition. Chase surprises me a little. But, come to think of it, with only 3 out of 11 acts safe, there’s a ton of competition tonight. Viewers have 30 minutes to vote in the Dunkin Save at NBC.com.

Next Tuesday’s Semi Final airs at 9 pm, right after the Hurricane Harvey telethon at 8 pm.

Time for results: Greater Work and Preacher Lawson step forward. America has voted! The first act going into the finals is…Preacher Lawson! Howie calls Preacher the next comedic superstar.

Next, Johnny Manuel and Yoli Mayor step forward. America has voted…the next act going into the final is…NEITHER OF YOU. I saw that coming. But still cruel. AND AWKWARD. Even Simon raised an eyebrow. TYRA’S RESULTS GAME SUCKS. ETA: I mean, yeah, a producer wrote the script. But a pro would have handled that better. She’s tentative and stumbles over her words.

After pimping Thursday’s NFL kickoff game on featuring the Patriots….and some other team. Ha. Tyra tosses a football out into the crowd. Lots of time to waste tonight! A video clip features Tyra quizzing the judges on how well they know each other. Fun fact: Simon’s middle name is Philip. Good lord, this is going on and on and on…

Finally, tonight’s special guests, The Clairvoyants take the stage. They came in second last season. ~~And deserved to win to be honest~~. Howie and Mel B are onstage to help. The judges read each other’s minds! Amazing.

More results: Darci Lynne and Mike Yung step forward. The next act going into the finals is…Darci Lynne. Oh wow. Mike Yung is eliminated! Even with the pimp spot and glowing critiques from the judges–not to mention a personal best performance–he rose no higher than the bottom 5. He left the stage without Tyra saying a word. Mean.

Sarah and Hero. Billy and Emily England step forward. America has voted…and the next act going into the finals (Tara misspoke and said semi finals. She’s truly horrible at this) is Sara and Hero. Wow. Billy and Emily are eliminated. I’m surprised.

Chase Goehring, Eric Jones and Evie Clair, Dunkin Save acts are on stage. Based on tonight’s vote, the act advancing to the Finals is…Evie Claire. REALLY? The girl’s got a heartbreaking backstory–her father is in the last stages of colon cancer. But Chase and Eric deserve it more.

Preview of next week’s acts. OH POMPEYO FAMILY IS BACK. They are the dog act that SHOULD have advanced to the semi finals. Still, there was speculation around Puddles Pity Party returning or giving the escape artist, Demian Aditya a second chance after his quarterfinals act went wrong…. Oh well. Simon loves his doggos.

The judges choose the last act. And Chase advances to the finals 3-1. Dang. It should have been Eric instead of Evie. The magician needed a better backstory I guess.
