    1. I am glad that Danny gets to be one of the hosts for the AMA red carpet, that is great. I am looking forward to seeing him interview different artists in the industry.

    2. I am off today and tried to catch the. Press conference. Was it televised? Haven,t read the list of nominees yet. Do we have an Idol alums nominated? Great gig for Danny on the red carpet – he seems excited.

    3. For what network will Danny work the red carpet? His mgmt did a good job getting him this gig! Congrats!

      ETA: Yay for Carrie, too!

    4. Looks like Danny’s success as one of the orange carpet hosts at the ACM (American Country Music) Awards did not go unnoticed – I am sure it’s very exciting for him to be able to interview some of the biggest stars in the music industry. Congrats.

    5. I think Danny will have a blast with this. He did a great job and had fun interviewing all the country stars on the red (orange) carpet for the ACM’s last spring. Hopefully a lot of those stars won’t be as tall as the country stars towering over him

I wonder if he will get to interview JLO, after calling her beautiful on Twitter and wishing he could sing to her ;)

It’s neat that Jennette McCurdy his buddy will be there also.

    6. Here is the Press Release with all the nominees. It also mentions Danny as a red carpet person.

In addition to Carrie mentioned in the post, Glee (VIII) has been nominated as a Soundtrack album.

The new/breakthrough artist is long (and will give a hint as to what the Grammys might do (I said might))

      B.o.B
      Justin Bieber
      Taio Cruz
      Jason Derulo
      Ke$ha
      Lady Antebellum
      Travie McCoy
      Mike Posner

Didn’t LA breakthough a long time ago? Way to catch up AMAs.

    7. Lady A.’s first album came out two years ago, so how can they be nominated for BNA. The AMA are funny, but at least they are honest about the show being about ratings, and nothing more.

    8. That is the difference between AMAs and the Grammy’s. “To be nominated for a Grammy you have to have an album out during the eligibility period and to be nominated for the AMA’s, they have nominations based on sales and airplay, even if the albums are old. (According to Wiki) :)

    9. Kirsten: Didn’t LA breakthough a long time ago? Way to catch up AMAs.

LOL. But didn’t you know, country acts don’t exist until they cross over and THAT’S when they break through ;)

I’m not their biggest fan especially of their current album but I think Lady A should’ve been nominated for Artist Of The Year. But the Gaga v. Eminem v. Justin Bieber battle should be pretty funny.

Carrie’s got a break in her Play On tour from November 17th to November 28th. She’s probably taping the CMT Artists Of The Year special and maybe actually taking a short break but I wouldn’t be surprised if she were at the AMAs too.

    10. That is the difference between AMAs and the Grammy’s. “To be nominated for a Grammy you have to have an album out during the eligibility period and to be nominated for the AMA’s, they have nominations based on sales and airplay, even if the albums are old. (According to Wiki)

I think the main criteria for the AMA’s is the popularity of the artist.

    11. Lady A didn’t do well enough against their competitors with sales and airplay to be nominated until this year. The Grammy’s are subjective based on the opinions of industry insiders. The AMA’s are about commercial success when it comes to the nominations and then they let the public decide the winner. Commercially this was their breakthrough year.

    12. Wow I thought for sure Daughtry would have been nominated :( They’ve always been a favorite with the AMA’s. Oh well bummer. Big congrats to Carrie though! All her accolades are always deserved.

My Grammy BNA predictions have been Bieber, Ke$ha, B.o.B, Derulo and Posner so those nominations dont surprise me.

    13. The Grammys and the AMAs don’t overlap that much. The AMA is basically all about sales and airplay. Artists that don’t sell a ton do get nominated for Grammys.

    14. The AMA’s are about commercial success when it comes to the nominations

Ok, this explains how the following can be considered the artist of the year. Really, for people like me, they should rename the category to “commercial success of the year”

Artist of the Year: Justin Bieber, Eminem, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry

    15. Posner has one hit and next to nothing in album sales. I don’t get that one. Even Derulo has a few hits.

    16. I didn’t think Posner had sold tons? I thought it album sales weren’t that great…or was it all for 1 single?

    17. Not a big daughtry fan, but why didn’t they get nominated?

B.o.B or Posner should win breakout artist.

    18. YAY for Danny!! What a great gig to have. I’m so happy for him and sure he is excited. :)

Congrats to Carrie for her noms.

    19. Daughtry didn’t get nominated because they’d only be eligible for best pop/rock group or album. There are only three nominees in each category and the AMA nominated the biggest sellers of the year: the BEP, LA and Train. All three had mega platinum singles. Daughtry didn’t have a top selling single so no nomination.

I think the AMAs are all determined by fan votes so look for Justin Bieber to pick up alot of awards. ;)

    20. Congrats to Carrie.

      Sad Daughtry isn’t there. :(

RE Lady A, I guess that also follows country’s general rule that “new” artists who are not really new (on subsequent albums) get nominated for BNA, lol. Like Zach Brown, Luke Bryan, Chris Young.

Lol at BSC fan comments on some facebook pictures; jealous/whiny comments do not reflect positively on your Idol……just sayin.

    21. Amusing list for the Pop or Rock. Look like Train is almost an afterthought (kinda sad commentary on the state of Rock) , and what’s Lady Antebellum doing there?

    22. Daughtry didn’t get nominated because they’d only be eligible for best pop/rock group or album.

Daughtry were nominated in the AC category last year.

    23. Lol at BSC fan comments on some facebook pictures; jealous/whiny comments do not reflect positively on your Idol……just sayin.

I think that comments are a reflection of the person who made them, and not anyone else.

    24. Oops, I didn’t remember the Daughtry AC nod. Maybe that’s what you get before you’re retired out of the AMAs altogether. ;)

    25. Well I think it is too bad Adam Lambert is not being acknowledged in any of the American award shows. He won an award in Canada and looks like he is doing well in so many other countries. Makes me sad he didn’t even get acknowledged for his hit “Whataya Want From Me” and “If I Had You” is still in the top 40. Bummer…

    26. Last year Daughtry had an album release in July, promotional activity and a single saturating radio during the nomination and eligibility period. Some of those sales led to their nomination in the AC category last year. Those sales during the 2009 eligibility period are excluded from 2010 nomination consideration. Their current single only started to really impact radio in September too late to help this year and LAY was only a moderate success. If the album had been released in the fall they might have been nominated for the 2010 awards but excluded from the 2009 awards.

Several people have had hit singles. The AMA’s honor those who perform the best in sales (including single plus album) and radio airplay during the eligibility period. WWFM did well but other artists did better commercially so they were nominated. The same happened to Kelly last year. She had a #1 single and solid album sales but others did better so she didnt receive a nomination.

    27. I think that comments are a reflection of the person who made them, and not anyone else.

No, of course not of the artist themselves, lol, they have no control- but it doesn’t help the artist when the comments are nasty or involve profanity and can hurt; just like when fans spam radio programs etc.- not the artist’s fault, but it can cause negative feedback and results for them.

    28. Hey it’s Jennette McCurdy! Love her :D.

Alternative groups. Wonder if I would love Phoenix and Vampire Weekend as much as I love Muse.

The Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Female Artist, and Artist of the Year categories make me sad.

Haven’t Taio Cruz and Travie McCoy been around a bit long to be considered breakout artists? Taio Cruz has been around since 2006. I remember his first song coming out my junior year of high school (I’m now a college junior), I really liked that song. Although I guess Travie was associated more with Gym Class Heroes earlier.

Noticing the extreme lack of rock on these lists (I don’t really know Train all that well, though). Why did I have to start liking rock when it lost popularity?

    29. I could see Adam getting Grammy nominations before the AMA’s considering the controversy last year. Just a hunch. Either way its really odd to see Idol so shut out, hell even Fantasia I thought would have got a nod.

    30. its really odd to see Idol so shut out, hell even Fantasia I thought would have got a nod.

The AMA don’t have a good history of recognizing R&B artists.

    31. Fantasia hasn’t sold enough albums/singles to warrent an AMA nod. It’s not that big a surprise that only Carrie got one this year. She still dominates her genre in terms of airplay, etc.

    32. Posner has one hit and next to nothing in album sales. I don’t get that one.

Sometimes, it’s a matter of when you peak. Peak at the beginning of the eligibility period and you may be forgotten. Peak right at the end and you are something new and cool.

Mike does have a second song climbing the charts right now. It’s sitting just outside the top 20 on Pop with a 732 spincrease this week (Please Don’t Go), so it will probably make it into top 10 or so (there are lots of songs with major drops above it). And that’s with a song still in the top 15. That shows some chops.

    33. Travie McCoy and Mike Posner? really??

Anyhoo – Congrats to Carrie Underwood! :)

    34. Hilarious to see Bieber’s name up against Usher and Eminem for fave male artist :D

Artist of the year must go to Eminem or GaGa, surely.

    35. Artist of the year must go to Eminem or GaGa, surely.

No. AMAs are determined by fans voting on the Internet. An OTT fan base can do alot for you so I wouldn’t count Bieber out.

    36. That shows some chops.

All except singing chops, lol. Nothing that that means anything anymore. Looks like my station didn’t add until a few weeks ago so I’m blissfully ignorant of the followup to his first horrible song.

    37. No. AMAs are determined by fans voting on the Internet. An OTT fan base can do alot for you so I wouldn’t count Bieber out.

If it’s a reflection of Twitter traffic, Bieber has a great chance, lol.

Hey it’s Jennette McCurdy! Love her :D .

I watched her host the ACM red carpet with Danny Gokey and she seemed really sweet, down to earth and very composed for her age. Looking forward to seeing her again.

    38. Ok, this explains how the following can be considered the artist of the year. Really, for people like me, they should rename the category to “commercial success of the year”

Artist of the Year: Justin Bieber, Eminem, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry

Well…errr…of those five, only two (Gaga, Eminem) can sing on key most of the time. Hoping one of those wins.

    39. Lady A is nominated for Pop, Country, AC, AND Breakout?! Hate them. WTF.

    40. lol I like the Posner song. And is it true he graduated from Duke with some crazy GPA? His parents are doctors or lawyers or something. I think I read that on a bio, pretty sure it was his.

I hope Eminem wins, loved his singles this year, but I don’t know how many crazy fans he has that would spend much time spamming the vote. I loved Gaga’s music for a while, but boy, I got tired of it really fast. I hope she does something completely different on her next album. She does have a really nice voice, tho.

      Congrats to Carrie.

    41. lol I like the Posner song. And is it true he graduated from Duke with some crazy GPA? His parents are doctors or lawyers or something.

      Another Jodie Foster, eh?

Another pic of the hosts and announcers:

      http://twitpic.com/2x0znb

That Agnes Monica, the Indonesian pop star who talked about doing a “project” with Danny (don’t know what that is all about yet) sure is pretty. She was all excited because Lady GaGas hairdresser did her hair for the shoot.

    42. Cool for Danny!! Was the AMA’s the thing last year when all hell broke lose for Adam?

ETA-yeah it was. OMG, I can’t believe it’s already been a year!!! UGH, I am NOT watching!!!! :/

    43. i hope lady gaga, katy perry, eminem, mike posner, shakira, rihanna, muse, and justin bieber win something :) I wish taylor swift was nominated for something, but her new album isnt out for like 2 weeks….

    44. Kesha supposedly got a near perfect score on the SAT ;) While I won’t deny the fact I am not a fan of Posner’s music, I’m sure he’s no fool and neither is she.

Bruno who can sing and write is a damn fool for the drug use, I hope he gives that up.

Oh, right, I forgot about that. Wow, they are both way smarter than me. Better GPA/SAT scores and making a whole lot more than I am.

    46. I’ve no liking for SuBo’s music personally, but the committee should be consistent and be seen to be consistent with these nominations. If sales are primarily important then she should have been nominated regardless (assuming eligible). You can’t pick and choose whose “sales” you want to honor, as there are plenty of artists of dubious quality on that list, imo, but big sellers.

Sales are objective and the commercial, ratings-obsessed AMAs exist for that purpose. They should leave the (often skewed) opinionating on merit to the Grammys.

If any of these industry voters benefited financially from the sales of the likes of a SuBo, but didn’t at least nominate, then they should hang their heads in shameful hypocrisy.

    47. Yay Carrie! She’s already won 5 AMA’s including break through artist and artist of the year, but whose going to turn down more awards lol! Wikipedia says she’s won 91 awards already over her career. I wonder if she keeps them all lol?

    48. I thought AMAs were a combo of sales and radio play. Ish.

ETA In re to no Subo nom.

    49. Re: SuBo- isn’t it the “American” Music Awards? Would she even be eligible? I don’t know?

    50. AMAs were a combo of sales and radio play.

OK SuBo has the sales, but does she has the radio play – just asking.

I was wondering the same about Beiber, how he got in, being Canadian.

    52. It would be awesome if Lambert could close the show with ‘Sleepwalker’!

hehe Well Beiber won a buch of the MMVA’s including one for international something..which I wouldn’t think was fair since he was Canadian…haha awards shows never make sense

    54. The American Music Awards don’t discriminate against someone if they are a citizen of another country if they enjoy commercial success here. That is the only requirement. Sale 2 million albums outside of the U.S. and several #1 airplay hits and that is irrelevant. Do the same here and your chances of being nominated for several awards are good.

    55. That’s it. If Bieber wins artist of the year, I’m leaving the country.

    56. *

That’s it. If Bieber wins artist of the year, I’m leaving the country.

LOL, start voting for Eminem or others ASAP!

    57. Don’t know why we have so many award shows. I like to check out the Oscars, the Grammies and the Tony’s. Dat’s it for me. Won’t be watching the AMA’s.
