After several years of legal entanglements as he tried to break away from American Idol management, season 11 winner Phillip Phillips is finally free to release new music.
The new song is titled “Miles,” and is a 19 Recordings release, under exclusive license to UMG. Notably, Phillip’s legal wrangling didn’t free him from the 19 record contract. When the singer settled his legal disputes earlier this summer, details were not released to the public.
Co-written by Phillip, Lindsay Rimes and Kevin Griffin, “Miles” is the first single from the Albany, Georgia native since “Unpack Your Heart,” the second single of of his 2014 album, Behind the Light.
“Miles” is the first single off of Phillip’s forthcoming album, and in a recent interview with Billboard magazine Phillip shared a little about what fans could expect.
“I’m really excited about this new music,” he said. Every artist says it’s their best to date on every album, but this is some deep, emotional lyrics and melodies and I just really feel like I’ve grown a lot these past few years. I’ve gone through a few things — some amazing things, some not so amazing. I draw a lot of inspiration from that so I’m really excited about getting it out.”
