Did you miss me Idol lovers? For those of who forgot about my recap of last
year’s Philly show feel free to take a look here:

My background hasn’t changed much, though I am engaged and me and my fiance went to this show together. This season of Idol underwhelmed me, I loved many of those who were cut way too early: Didi, Siobhan, Lilly, Katelyn, etc. Enough with that though let’s go on with the show.
Didi Benami- Didi looked great on stage, but these large venues, especially the Wachovia don’t do her ANY justice, her voice was pleasant enough but a long show likes this, frankly, needs a bang, which she doesn’t have. Play with Fire or Rhiannon would’ve been better choices. Still though, Didi seems like a very cool, gracious person and really loved the energy.
Andrew Garcia- Like most people, I really liked Andrew in Hollywood and then enjoyed watching him completely tank on the big stage. ‘Straight Up’ translates terribly on to the Live stage, the whole big band effect just didn’t feel right, for very ‘Andrew.’ The Maroon 5 song ‘Sunday Morning’ was mundane and sealed the boredom in the place, we needed a kickstart.
Katie Stevens: Surprisingly, Katie provided that bang. Katie was very uninteresting and confused during her Idol tenure and outlasted many of the more deserving females this season. Her Demi Lovato song sounded really good and didn’t feel so Disney surprisingly. ‘Fighter’ was when things got really fired up and the crowd felt it. I’m one of those people who thinks Christina Aguilera’s Stripped is one of the decade’s best, a masterpiece of sorts, so hearing a cut off of there was very nice.
Tim Urban- Beer run. Heard a bit from the concession area, Viva La Vida sounded pleasant, good ole Teflon.
Siobhan Magnus- Beer in hand, I got ready for what to be a spectacle. The arrangement for Paint it Black (mind you, I’ve seen the Stones live 4 times) always gets me- it’s so unique and so powerful. This was the iTunes version and it converted perfectly on stage. The fanboy in me adored the scream. Spiderwebs is a 90s classic for me and i loved seeing her fun side. It’s Stockholm Syndrome though, that had me going. I’m a HUGE Muse fan and i LOVE this song so I had high expectations. Siobhan sings it very differently so it was a new type of performance but it still rocked very hard. Best of the night.
Aaron Kelly- Listen, Aaron seems nice and wholesome like Bambi or Scott McIntyre’s little sister, but the charisma is just not there. Yes he obviously brought his A-game to the stage, but his A-game is like Crystal’s Z-game, very mediocre. The song selections were spot-on but the performance was so rehearsed and unauthentic it all fell flat for me.
Intermission- Nice little Miley Cyrus cover, without those heinous harmonies in the finale, this sounded pretty chill and calming almost. All their voices worked nicely separately.
Mike Lynche- Big Mike had a very nice voice i thought, but the over-the-top persona and the cocky things he said always pissed me off during the show, his performances on the tour increased his standing with me. Ready for Love is a great song and I do love how he sings, same with the the JT ‘My Love’ though the rapping is heinous. Really do hope something comes out of this for him, even if it’s a minor R&B career in the vein of Maxwell.
Casey James- Fuck that stupid guitar playing, talentless, piece of cougar-baiting shit. Took a long piss during that crap set.
Crystal Bowersox- Was Crystal on cough medicine last night? For real, something felt out. The vocals were epic and consistent of course, but I felt the wholeshebang was quite lackluster in terms of presence and what I wanted from her. Surprisingly, from the videos i’ve seen of her on this tour it must have been only in Philly cause her set was clearly lacking. Idk, still a fan.
Lee DeWyze- the most undeserving winner of Idol, perhaps ever. Let’s keep this short shall we, Lee sounds pleasant enough and yes the so abashed at being in a large venue shtick is nice and homely, but at the end of the day Lee is a mediocre singer with an average stage presence and a small grasp of music and singing. Let’s all im gonna say cause I don’t need hatemail again.
You thought the finale was bad on GMA? Come see it alive, whoever thought these harmonies sounded good must also be tone-deaf because it sounded like complete shit. Seriously, very lame ending to a very very lame show. Goodbye Idol, unless some drastic changes can be made, the poor sales of this tour and ratings of this season point in the direction of the end. Being there live just made it easier to swallow.
