American Idol XIII Top 8 Results – Live Blog – Videos (Updated with POLL)

The American Idol XIII Top 8 results! Who will get the lowest number of votes? And will the judges save them? Find out as we live blog the show. Plus, Daughtry performs “Waiting for Superman.”

Sam Woolf had the lowest number of votes, but was SAVED by the judges.

DAMN judges. Why did you save a singer who has been in the Bottom 3 THREE TIMES! Sam Woolf could not even be saved by sentiment! He got sent home after singing the song that made him an early front runner! HOW MUCH CLEARER CAN THE MESSAGE BE JUDGES! America is OVER Sam Woolf!

This Save business can be really annoying. In theory, it should be ONLY used in case of an odd result. For instance, in season 7, Michael Johns was suddenly eliminated without ever being in the bottom 3. That would have been a proper save. Season 3’s Jennifer Hudson was eliminated at Top 7 after a killer performance. THAT would have been a proper save. Season 11’s Jessica Sanchez had many great performances, including the night she was eliminated. THAT was a proper save.

But using it on a singer who is done improving, whose best performances are behind them, whom America has clearly rejected? NO.

The scariest part is that if it hadn’t been used tonight, The Save could have been in play until the Top 6. What if Jena, Jessica, Alex or Caleb are weirdly eliminated in the next two weeks? Caleb and Alex have been consistently good all season. Jena and Jessica have had ups and downs. But consider, Jessica, Caleb and Alex have never been in the bottom 3! But with this wacky season? Anything could happen! Which is why The Save should be reserved and only used when necessary.

My theories are crap, however. Because, as far as the producers are concerned, The Save is REALLY about good TV. And what could be more heartwarming than saving the cute boy with the big puppy dog eyes from extinction? Those hoards of screaming teenaged girls in the audience just add to the feel good ambiance! And how would the judges have looked if they said no to the adorable teenaged boy who looks like he walks grandmas across the street in his spare time? LIKE GREAT BIG MEANIES! Oh, the image of Sam’s sweet grandpa crying in the audience. We could NOT HAVE THAT.

So the boy robot lives to put us asleep for at least another week. And if Idol history repeats itself, positive blowback will keep Sam safe next week. The week after Jessica was saved, another front runner, Colton Dixon, bit the dust. If there had been a Save, it surely would have been used on him. Your takeaway: Watch out for that shock boot. It may finally come.

Randy Jackson opens the show and he predicts Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, Dexter Roberts, Jena Irene will be SAFE. (OMG RANDY STILL CAN’T PRONOUNCE JENA’S NAME RIGHT!)

Time for the Idol dinner time downlow! Caleb says it was the best show they ever done. Malaya tells Sam to get rid of that stank devil eye. Jena says it sucks that someone will go home tonight. BUT MAYBE NOT.

Results! The screen will tell the tale. The first person moving on is Dexter Roberts! The next person safe is…Jena Irene!

SIMON COWELL SHOUTOUT!  Randy is seated RIGHT NEXT to Ryan Seacrest on stage.

Now it’s time for some Ford pimpage! It’s like the old days! The contestants drive and talk about driving.

Randy introduces Daughtry, mentioning that he mentored the Top 31.  The band performs “Waiting For Superman,” as single that has pretty much come and gone. Nevertheless, a really great performance from Chris. He always delivers. Ryan says he could never forget the look on Chris’ face the night he was eliminated. Chris helpfully recreates the look, but not really. Hee. It’s all water under the bridge now.

More results! Caleb Johnson is SAFE! Jessica Meuse is SAFE! Alex Preston is SAFE! That means, the Bottom 3 is comprised of Malaya Watson, Sam Woolf and CJ Harris.

WHOA! I predicted the bottom 3 correctly! I’m going to enjoy that while it lasts.

After the Nationwide Vote….the person at risk is SAM WOOLF!!!!!!!! WILL HE BE SAVED?  He sings “Babylon” as his “save me” song.

I don’t think he SHOULD be saved. He’s not going to win. But, SAM WOOLF IS SAVED.  The confetti flies.  No, really, there is confetti.  Someone is swearing. Is that Sam?  If one of my fav girls goes home next week I’M GOING TO CUT A BITCH.

FYI: The judges had until the Top 6 to use The Save. ALSO: An extra week was baked into the final, just like last season. There will be no double elimination next week.
