American Idol Tour Press Day – “Don’t Stop Believing”

From the LA Times Idoltracker

'C'Mon Down to the Stage&#3...
'C'Mon Down to the Stage' from Arena Stage

The Top 10 sing “Don’t Stop Believing” for the press during today’s American Idol summer tour press conference.

The group song, with Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre on piano will serve as the concert’s final number.

Can’t wait for the tour!

PS: It’s just a rehearsal. I’m not expecting much at this point. It’s a little rough, but they’ll get it together by the tour.

  1. Okay, I am beginning to think I might just make the 4 hour drive to Kansas City to catch the tour. I want to go to there.

  2. I’m really, really missing the Allison/Kris opening that they did on the show. Scott and Matt just aren’t doing it for me. I thought Michael and Megan were surprisingly good. Everyone else sounded how I thought they would sound, for the most part. It seems like Danny’s voice is really tired; his little duet with Allison was not the most pleasing thing ever. All in all, great effort for a rehearsal.

  3. There were some bum notes and a lot of self-conscious ducking and shuffling going on among some of the contestants (the last tour stop is going to be so different than the first!), but overall, you have to give them credit … here are 10 people who can sing live. That feels so rare today.

  4. Ok so I am totally biased but Adam just blows them all away! That said, I am looking forward to July 16th LA Staples Center :thumbup_tb:

  5. A premptive reminder:

Let’s keep this post on topic. And the topic is: The big cheesy top 10 tour. I’ll be deleting everything else.

In other words, no thread hijacking. Thank you.

  6. I liked it better the way they did it on Group night, with Allison and Kris leading it off. And the way they are doing it now, the Top 2 don’t really get to do much in the song.

This version sounds really rough in this video, but they likely haven’t rehearsed it too much together yet. It’ll probably be fine once they do it live on tour.

  7. This is possibly the cheesiest group number EVAH, I can see why Anoop is so tickled by the whole thing!

  8. Adam sounds amazing on this song. The song was made for someone with his vocal range. He is such a star! As for some of the others, yikes!

  9. Yeah, I liked the one with Kris and Allison in the beginning too! I wonder what kind of choreography they have to do with this song though!

Okay, so here is my prediction for how it’ll go. Scott and Matt will be on the bottom already while the rest are on top of the stairs/platform. As each person sings, they move down to the bottom stage until the very end after Kris sings and they are all reunited! Big applause, confetti, and it’s done! hehe

  10. Seeing this video gets me so excited for the tour. I just feel really happy for all of them, that they will all get a chance to sing and make some money this summer.

  11. Only sounded s’aright to me (except I like that Matt G and Scott are on the piano–nice!). Allison and Danny did NOT sound good together, unfortunately, and true, very little Kradam. Of course, it’s early, and they have some more rehearsal time. I wonder how they will choreograph this (cheesy, cheesy, cheesy, I would guess). Do they all dress like Randy Jackson in the 80’s? ;-)

And: Adam got the GLORY note! (I hope it’s okay that I said that, mj, but I was sooo hoping he would get the glory note!)

Why does Boston have to be the *last* leg of the Tour? *sigh*

  12. Adam is in such good voice, it made my heart flutter a little actually. Anoop sounded great too and surprisingly so did Gokey.
I’m so envious of everyone going to the tour. Enjoy it guys, have a ball for me. Hell have two balls please.

That was so nice to hear.

  13. kijico3

Ok so I am totally biased but Adam just blows them all away!

    Ditto!!!!!!!!!!! :clap_tb:

  14. Megan, Anoop and Allison had some funny moments there. Also, Megan looks good (:

I think they sound kinda great, I even liked Michael and Scott this time.

  15. Just let Adam sing the whole thing. (Nice seeing Matt G. on the piano again).

  16. I guess I’m the only one who thought in general the whole thing was a train wreck

  17. I guess Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the only one who thought in general the whole thing was a train wreck

It was definitely a rehearsal-grade performance.

  18. Ouch! Kris sounds very rough. At least he’s so cute. Not a good idea to sandwich Adam and Kris together like that. Kris sounded much better opening the song with Allison. Reinforced my opinion that Kris has the weakest voice of the top 10.

I think Danny is going to be a huge surprise. I bet he sounds really good live, along with Allison. Bet they get good reviews. Megan sounded very good too. I’m kind of pulling for her. Syesha was my big concert surprise. My opinions of the Idols totally changed hearing them live than on TV. Can’t wait to see if they do this year too.

  19. AC–Good prediction!!! I agree. I can’t wait, but I do think Adam steals the song…he is great on it! I’m also surprisedly impressed with Lil….and Michael and Scott(though my expectations were a lot lower for them to begin with). The others were fine too:)

  20. It’s only a rehearsal…can’t judge how it’s goign to sound/look when they do it live.

I still think they should go back to the version where Kris and Allison start it off. Then have Adam with the big finish. I do like having Scott and Matt on piano — that sounded pretty good.

Hey…at least it won’t be lip synched, like all the dumb group numbers were this season!

  21. I thought that was pretty rough and agree with those that preferred the Kris/Allison opening. But I can see why the top 2 just have a small part at the end – they have the longer sets that probably come right before this performance.

Gokey: screwing up your duets since 2009.

  22. Add me to the list of people who preferred the Kris/Alison opening on the show.

A lot of them just seem to be shouting (especially when the whole group is singing) and their voices are cracking and off key in parts ….. but I guess this is just rehearsal and some of them are obviously a bit self conscious of the cameras being ther.

I know I’m an Adamtard but the guy makes it all sound so effortless .. no shouting or straining at all.

  23. Megan should have had a bigger part, she sounded great! All of them did in my opinion did. I don’t like Adam (sorry!) and I even thought he sounded good! This is going to be a great concert! By the way, this is my first post so hello. MJ your site rocks!

  24. Well…um. I guess it’s a “work in progress,” right? So I’ll wait for the YouTubes from the tour before I judge. I think “Please Don’t Stop the Music” last season was made all of all brands of cheese, but it was still a crowd-pleaser.
Since this is a much, much better song, I bet it will be great by mid-tour.

  25. And: Adam got the GLORY note! (I hope ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s okay that I said that, mj, but I was sooo hoping he would get the glory note!)

I totally agree. Was waiting for his part. Hope it’s OK that I quoted this, mj! Scott sounded a little off. To those thinking that it was Scott practicing during Anoop/Matt’s LA Times interview, here’s the proof!

  26. Yikes! 6 out of them 10 sounded horrible to me!Adam, Kris, Michael, and Anoop sounded great.
Danny did a Tweet, 2 days ago, about how hoarse he was. He’s going to need vocal rest before the tour even starts!

  27. Adam sounded great — and it seemed like he was actually holding back, like they often do in rehearsals to preserve the voice.

Kris sounded rough — I don’t know if that part of the song is really the part best suited for his range. But again, it’s only one rehearsal.

They looked a little confused in the middle about who was supposed to sing what. But again, this should all be fixed.

It would have been fun to see the rehearsal complete with the choreography.

  28. While the performance may not be grammy worthy I have to say it does make me excited for the tour. Counting down…..15 days to go. I’m so giddy with excitement.

  29. Awww, I miss them! I’m not planning to go to the tour, because if anything screamed in my ear for two hours straight I would have to kill it. But maybe I could find some good drugs that would let me let the shriekers live to shriek another day…..
    ;)

  30. Yes, yet another strong piece of evidence as to why they should never ever sing together. ever. (some of them shouldn’t sing solo either IMHO)

  31. Oh, and I think the part I liked best was watching Anoop try to control his giggling fit!

  32. I guess my standards are too low for most of this group that I think that this is good. hehe.. That or I was distracted by Anoop! Didn’t he seem like he was going to start laughing at any minute?

  33. I also liked the original version, except Adam sings a little more in this one, which I like! Some of their voices sound a little strained, especially allison. I’m seeing them fairly early, July 20th, so I hope they will still be good vocally. I also hope they get some good vocal rest immediately prior to the start of the tour. I can’t wait for the tour, bring on the cheeeeze!

  34. I noticed that Kris sounded kind of off, too. :( It’s either too many press junkets or, more likely, that they gave him the wrong part to sing. I know he and Adam went last, and that makes sense, but it wouldn’t be wrong for him to go first, either. Allison sounded kind of funky, too (Danny sounded surprisingly good!). And Adam *did* wait his turn (well, they had him wait his turn ;-0), so no one can say he hogged the song, tho he did get the last two glory notes.

Please say they are going to dress in 80s garb!!!

I am getting waaaay too excited about this…

  35. OMG! Was that Scott starting off?? He sounded terrible!

Adam is the only one who can even approximate the orignal key of that song!

  36. For anyone who hasn’t been to an AI concert, they tend to use the same set piece for the staging. It isn’t an open stage like on idol and if the contestants are all together they will be standing more or less in a straight line. There isn’t a lot of room for “dancing” so I think the cheoreography will be just some simple steps and nothing at all like Paula’s number.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj-P_Gc4gPk

    This is last year’s concert.

  37. danny and kris shld switch parts. kris doesn’t have the range for that part . Danny did it so well in the show.

  38. OMG! Was that Scott starting off?? He sounded terrible!

Director of this show knows what they are doing by giving Scott and Megan the smallest solos in that song. Also, looks like Allison and Danny get a little duet there. Nice.

  39. Only saw the tour last year and it was quite an experience. An average audience member is not going to analyze who sounded rough and who nailed it cause no one can hear it, really! Especially, the last number is all noise even if you have close seats. The individual performances are more audible but fans scream at certain moments as well. I would have loved to see Kris this year but won’t be in the country when the tour comes to the East Coast so have to wait for another concert. I have to say that people think that only diva voices sound good in arenas. So not true! If the sound system is good (usually it’s not), the most intimate performer can sound incredible. Jason and Brooke (not huge voices) sounded as good as Syesha and David A (big voices) at least at my concert.

And Adam *did* wait his turn (well, they had him wait his turn ;-0), so no one can say he hogged the song, tho he did get the last two glory notes.

To be honest, though, Adam is the only one really capable of hitting those last two glory notes. C’mon, it *is* Steve Perry they’re trying to match, and few people can hit those notes like he can.

Clearly the song needs work, but I think it’ll be a fun number once they work out all the kinks. I found it painful to listen to Scott … and Kris definitely seemed strained … but I think they all did a decent job. Surprisingly I liked Lil’s part. Not surprisingly, I liked Anoop and Adam.

  41. I have to admit Glee did it better…actually this was on Family Guy last night too.

  42. OK, as rough as that was, it made me wish I was going to a tour stop. I’ve never “done” the Idols tour before. My Cookie show at Birchmere used up the rest of my concert $$!

  43. Kris sounded rough à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if that part of the song is really the part best suited for his range. But again, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s only one rehearsal.

Yeah–the verse would be better for him (just like Anoop sounded way better on the verse part he did rather than the chorus). But by the time it’s Kris’s turn, the song is almost over. He did try a little counter melody there to get the notes a little lower, but apparently that didn’t work too well. They still have 2 weeks. They’re probably all kind of experimenting with what works best for their own voices.

  44. I didn’t like: Scott’s solos, Danny, duet Allison – Danny, Kris

Adam was really good and the others were OK.

  45. Sounded a little rough in spots but lots of potential.

Not enough Adam and Kris although what there was of Adam sounded fantastic. Kris probably shouldn’t sing that close to Adam because it becomes apparent that he can’t hit the notes like Adam can. I liked it when Allison and Kris started the song but I have to admit I really enjoyed Matt and Scott on the piano.

  46. I’m really looking forward to going to the show at Staples Center. This will be my first time at an AI tour…hopefully my ears can stand it. I have a pretty good seat, so hopefully I will be able to hear. Going to hear Kris, Adam and Allison, although I like Matt and Anoop, too.

  47. Man, some of these Journey songs have not aged well. Cheez Whiz.

  48. wow, Kris didn’t sound that bad =( I thought he sounded good but that’s also because he can do no wrong in my eyes. haha.. anyways, it’s more that they gave him a weird part to do that consists of glory notes which is not exactly his style.

I agree with Anya though about everything she said.

and Kris finally has twitter!! @KrisAllen4Real

  49. So here I am at work again listening but not being able to watch in that sneaky way I have so as not to alert the bosses.
Someone is definitely off all the way through, but I can’t tell who it was. I can make out Megan, who didn’t sound bad to me. Anoop came off nicely — I could pick him out. I’m guessing it was Danny doing some ridiculous doodoodoo thing again.
Kris, man, remind me again why he won.
And Adam — you can’t mistake that voice. Brilliant as ever, especially that fab glory note. It’s like he’s the pro surrounded by some high school kiddies.

  50. My observations:
    1. Yep, that was rough. Very rough in some parts. Keep workin’ on it guys! lol
    2. OUCH on that bad note that Matt hit in his second bit.
    3. I could barely hear Allison – it sounded like her mic was turned way down.
    4. Adam’s last ‘money note’ sounded fab, as always. I love it when he goes up and down the scale like that (I am SO not a music person – don’t know how to describe that better).
    5. Why did it look like Adam wasn’t part of the group? Maybe it was just the angle that the video is shot from, but it looks like he’s being ostracized/snubbed (perhaps just my overactive imagination).

  51. I didn’t see Adam being snubbed. He and Kris were simply standing behind everyone else…

  52. I guess Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the only one who thought in general the whole thing was a train wreck

If that’s the big finale, it kind of makes you shudder at the rest of the show.

This year’s cast just isn’t very good, IMO.

  53. Wish Michael were slimmer or the camera were set at the other side of the piano.

  54. I liked the 2 pianos – though I wish a less cheesy song had been chosen. Hopefully the tour will include a “battle of pianos thing”

    Vocal wise:
Scott sounded like Scott. Not the strongest of vocals, but won’t ever be.
Matt started off good but then hit a sour note somewhere in there
    Michael was ok, not great
Megan was good. Duet with Michael was probably the best duet of the lot
Danny’s solo was probably my favorite part of that song – he actually sounded quite good. But his duet with Allison was all kinds of wrong and he hit all kinds of sour notes with that.
Allison started off good, but then it got rough. She sounded tired
Lil sounded good – though I didn’t know she was even there at first (big guy Michael move over already).
Adam sounded good as always – he was definitely saving his voice though.
Kris sounded ok, but after Adam he sounded weak. His voice isn’t at that same strength. Making him sing Journey doesn’t work well for him.
    Anoop was good.

All in all I think they got some work to do. The duet portions need some major work.

  55. Good thing Adam can hit the high notes! I can’t keep my eyes off him, my heart actually started beating faster just watching him…I’ve got it BAD :)

  56. I must keep reminding myself…”it’s only a rehearsal, it’s only a rehearsal”.

  57. I must keep reminding myself…”it’s only a rehearsal, it’s only a rehearsal”.

  58. I don’t think Adam was being snubbed either .. I think it’s just the fact that he’s tall so he’s often at the back when the group are standing all together, plus him and Kris don’t seem to have much of a part in this group number so are pushed at the back a bit. I don’t know how the thing will be staged when it’s actually performed but the idols will probably be spread out around the stage .. not all huddled around the piano’s like they’re having a bit of an old sing song at Xmas …lol

To me Adam stands out in every group number or interview that he’s in .. he just has that kind of presence .. he has great posture and always stands up straight so he appears to be standing out at the back instead of all hunched up in the rabble (lol) … I also think that he looks seperate from the rest as he’s dressed like a star whereas the others look like they got up, fell into their wardrobes and just went out wearing what ever they fell into …..lol

  59. I just watched last year’s finale to Please Don’t Stop The Music. I noticed that the David’s got to come out first to say good night (so cute!) and then the others circled round, with Cook saying (screaming) the final, Good night, everyone, etc. I hope Kris still has a voice by then or a loud mic. ;-)

And I hope that means Kradam get center stage, too. Oh, such a fantard…

  60. Wish Michael were slimmer or the camera were set at the other side of the piano.

He was getting perilously close to blocking my view of Adam.

  61. Adam looks like he is the special guest star singing with a college singing group…..Can’t wait for the tour!

  62. girlygirl
I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see Adam being snubbed. He and Kris were simply standing behind everyone elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Oh I know, like I said it’s just my overactive imagination. The camera-angle is probably a large part of it. It just kind of looked to me like he’d be relegated to the chorusline (and I would probably say the same about Kris, if I could see more than just a couple of quick views of the side of his head – that boy’s just too damn short, heh).

  63. This is my take on the singing-order (in response to those who are saying “why did x get this part?”/”why didn’t y get that part?”) – I’d have to watch it again and pay closer attention to the order in order to be sure, but aside from Scott & Matt doing the opening, it immediately struck me that they seem to be going in order of elimination. If it’s not that (again, aside from Scott & Matt at the beginning), it’s pretty close – definitely the top 4. Allison & Danny didn’t get solo/duet bits until near the end, then it was Adam & Kris solo/duet (with Kris getting that first big “glory note” bit, which IMO he just can’t quite hit). [shrug] I dunno. Maybe I’m way off; I’m a little out of sorts today.

  64. I definitely liked the show performance they did (Top 9 night) better than this rendition. It just seemed the parts they gave everyone in that version fit their voices better. This one seems to have too much individual stylings in it and it lacks a certain cohesive sound.

Adam sounds fantastic in his part, though, as usual.

  65. Anoop can’t stop laughing. Probably cuz most ofà ¯ »’ them sounded meh. He, Lil and Matt sounded good. Adam sounded great!

  66. Come on peeps! This was only a REHERSAL. A real walk thru for press day! A vocal warm-up, half volume press day practice! It was not intended to be at performance level

There is enough to really enjoy. Alli and Megan goofing off. Anoop foolin’ w/ Allison, who gets him back by pulling his sleeve down. All of them are about to LOL at some point in this goof-off session.

  67. The top 9 version of this was so much better suited to each voice – or maybe I just got so used to the opening w/ Kris and Allison – Scott really can’t do the part Allison did then. Matt is good at the part Kris had though.

Did not like the Danny/Allison duet or the stylings of the individual voices.

And Adam and Kris seem to just not be that into this in the video, IMHO. Maybe that’s why they were standing in the abck behind everyone.

  68. Adam, you are amazing…you ROCK my world! Nobody can hit those notes but you, you’re my AI

  69. yup, they should go back to the top 9 version, and get rid of sarver.. haha, i’m mean! but he’s totally covering up Kris in the video!

and as someone said earlier, no one is really going to compare all these people singing so even if they sounded like this on the real thing, the only thing the audience will think is: damn, that was cheesy.

  70. I am VERY curious to see this show (I have never gone to an Idol concert). The stage setup for “my” show (heh) is basically a rectangle, and seating goes all the way around, so I doubt there will be much in the way of ‘set decoration’, because the performers will have to pay attention to all four sides. I’ve never actually been to a concert with that setup – all the ones I’ve seen have had a giant backdrop & screen (oh and in the case of Rob Zombie, a massive demon’s head with a wide open mouth & lolling tongue :lol_tb:).

Can’t wait to hear everyone (esp. Adam of course) live!

Oh and P.S. I love this song. Then again I love cheesy 80’s ballads. lol

  71. ppwars
Come on peeps! This was only a REHERSAL. A real walk thru for press day! A vocal warm-up, half volume press day practice! It was not intended to be at performance level

We know. I think we’re all just having fun poking fun, LOL. :wink_ee:

  72. Scott sounds like a deranged muppet. I had to pause and laugh and then rewind and watch it again. Oh, and Danny has no idea how to harmonize.

  73. I thought Matt and Scott playing piano was such a great touch to the group number, vocals aside. This may not be entirely on topic, but I think finding contestants who can also play musical instruments has added so much to the show. I think, musically, the song itself is far better suited to certain idols, such as Scott, Lil, Danny and Anoop. I can’t really see it as being Matt, Michael, Megan, Kris, Allison or Adam’s song of choice (vocal ability aside) although Adam sings it much better than the other five. I thought Lil did a really great job with her part, I missed hearing her voice. The Danny and Allison duet did not work very well; Danny seems to always try to outsing his partner. I would love to hear a Lil/Adam duet on this one or perhaps an Allison/Anoop combo. Anoop was having a good snicker at Kris when he was singing (and I use the term loosely). I’ve got two words of advice for Kris on this song – Lip Sync. And I’m a ginormous Kris fan, but that was not good. It’s not a good song choice for him, but trooper that he (and Adam, Megan and Allison) is, he works with it. And they’ve got lots of time to practice to (hopefully) work out all the kinks.

  74. “Anastasia:
We know. I think weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re all just having fun poking fun, LOL.”

Oooooooo, I hope every one sees the funny stuff. Anoop and Alli start goofing from just a few seconds in. It doesn’t stop until about the time the Danny/Alli duo is mid-way. If you like that kinda stuff, it’s worth watching again if you missed it to pick up the subtleties .

  75. Come on peeps! This was only a REHERSAL. A real walk thru for press day! A vocal warm-up, half volume press day practice! It was not intended to be at performance level

Half volume? .. if that was Scott’s half volume, he’s going to burst eardrums when he performs it for real ….lol

  76. Wow, sometimes Matt can really, really sound bad. He has a beautiful voice, but it’s the kind of voice that makes you notice the bad notes even more.

I don’t like what Scott does with the song either, he tries to sing it as another elevator music anthem, earth to Scott…this is rock!

Gokey kept saying all this time that his raspy voice would song great along with Allison’s raspy voice. Well, now there’s video evidence that he was wrong.

The fact that Kris doesn’t sound great, is not his fault at all, it’s just that, that part of the song, sounds a bit underwhelming when sung like that. I’m sure he would have killed Scott’s solo.

However, I did enjoy Sarver’s and Anoop’s contributions to the melody.

It still amazes me how effortlessly it looks when Adam opens his mouth and sings those notes.

Kinda makes you remember what a heterogeneous group of singers they are.

  77. To be fair, Adam takes those last notes higher than Steve Perry! Flove..

  78. Thank goodness Adam has the high notes. He is the best sound on the song…go figure.

Good thing Adam can hit the high notes! I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t keep my eyes off him, my heart actually started beating faster just watching himà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve got it BAD :)

You and me both :wub_tb: Adam is just in a league of his own, it’s so obvious just as it was the whole season of AI.

  80. Lousy choice of song, obviously a shameless GLEE tie-in. I wish the cameraman had moved to his right or gotten Sarver to move back a bit. Defying logic, this group sound pretty lousy together and have all season. Some years the groups sound great.

  81. Noop Dogg’s part is too high for him- he sounds kind of strained. Megan and Michael sound pretty good on their duet. Scott/Matt=bleh, but the pianos are good. Lil was on pitch!
Sounds like Danny gave himself some much-needed vocal rest, because his voice was SHOT by Top 3 and he sounds good now.
Kris sounds surprisingly good here- not his type of song. But his pitch is great as usual and I didn’t realize he could get that high before. I think TPTB picked this when they still thought Adam would win.
And Adam…oh, Adam. Hitting those crazy high notes without even sounding like he’s trying. I was watching the whole video just waiting for his high notes part. He sounds like he could go another couple notes higher if he wanted to.

  82. I love Journey and hope they can nail this.

I think a tribute to Michael Jackson should be included in the tour since he was featured on AI this season!

Scott sounds like a deranged muppet. I had to pause and laugh and then rewind and watch it again. Oh, and Danny has no idea how to harmonize.

    BWAAAHH!!!

  84. I was so distracted throughout this video by Anoop. He just looked like a high school boy who was embarrased to be singing. (And I like Anoop.)

If I remember right, this number was lipsynched when they did it top 9 week so all in all it sounded really good. I hate to say it but I think they are all (‘cept. Adam) going to benefit from this being the last number (if that’s true) and it being just a scream fest (by the audience). I watched the video of last year’s last number and it was just kind of a party.

A comment on Adam’s high notes. Yes, he does hit the glory notes, but in general all of his lines were nicely sung… in key, effortless. I also really appreciated that he seemed to be taking this run-through seriously (as a musician would). They were being filmed by the press afterall. Kris and a few of the others did as well… but there was an awful lot of silliness going on too.

Someone commented earlier that Adam seemed to be too far in the back. I don’t think you can tell so much from the video, but it looks like Lil is actually right in front of him so he and Kris (who’s parts come later in the song) are in the back… which seems fine.

  85. Agree with Grammie Kari … they should do a MJ song as a tribute… maybe a little medley

  86. I love the way Kris looks at Adam when Adam sings the last run on the song. He kind starts looking at his face but then seems to be checking him out ….lol

  87. lil sounded amazing and of course adam did- im still pumped to see AI tour and yeah journey coming to NO in Sept

  88. They sound great! Adam stands out, of course, in looks and voice!

What!? Kris checking out Adam, again??!! So cute! Of course, how can he not help himself!

  89. That wasn’t bad, considering where they are in the process. I think they’ll work it out.

I will say that, like last year, it’s seeming like there’s quite a distance between the talent of the top 2 and the rest of the pack. I love Allison, btw, and maybe they didn’t give her the most flattering parts for her voice — and the pseudo-duet with Gokey didn’t help a bit. But the quality difference when we heard Adam and Kris was quite clear to me.

This is going to be fun~

  90. for those of us thinking that was adam singing in the background of anoop/mat interview- it was Scott—-How could we have been so mistaken HAHA

  91. Adam is the only one in the group who can hit those notes. Love the way he does it….better than the original. And look at the way he moves…

  92. too funny i had to rewatch to see kris checking out adam- and anoop holding back laughing—-matt had the giggles too

  93. i love watching adam rock out while other people are singing (he got really into when it was allison’s turn). he did the same thing listening to kris perform on their morning show press tour. he just cant help himself! too cute.

  94. “i love watching adam rock out while other people are singing (he got really into when it was allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s turn). he did the same thing listening to kris perform on their morning show press tour.”

I believe Adam takes every performance by himself and others seriously. He always shows a lot of respect for others while they are singing.

This is just a rehearsal, we shouldn’t ask for much. Bottom line is they are having fun!

  95. Scott sounds like a deranged muppet. I had to pause and laugh and then rewind and watch it again. Oh, and Danny has no idea how to harmonize.

It’s been a sad day but this comment is making me laugh so thanks. At first I thought Scott sounded okay but on re-listening I do hear the muppet-esque quality to which you refer.

Adam is the only one who sounded great.

  96. I am sooooo looking forward to the tour. Tacoma is the second date so being able to see how things develop over the summer through YouTube posts and fan sites will be fun. Don’t Stop Believing says it all for each of these taleneted entertainers. Wish it was possible to be at the last show to compare the growth in confidence from the first part of the tour to the last big show but that is not in the stars. For events of today – a special thought for Michael Jackson and his music. Idols have brought new and interesting spins to his incredible music and it has given us a great sense of his talent and the timelessness of his words. Black or White, Billie Jean, Pretty Young Thing and more on Idol have made for the best entertainment.

  97. Adam is such a confident, clean singer. Just great.

I revise my opinion about Kris. I think he sounded decent but was holding the mic too far away from his mouth. Same with Allison.

The key is too high for quite a few of them: Scott, Michael, Anoop, and Kris and Danny would probably be more comfortable if the key were lower too. I wonder why they didn’t just lower it one key.

Also, that line that Megan and Michael sing together would be so easy to put him on a harmony–basically, one-third lower. Wonder why they didn’t; it would be far easier for him and the song is pretty dull right there.

Lil does sound good; she should have more to sing. The key is perfect for her.

  98. Well……I think they should ditch this and do an MJ medley instead. Adam and Matt were the only ones who sounded decent in this to me.

  99. It was a little rough but other than that, I thought they all sounded alright and I liked it. Adam clearly sounded the best though.

And I’m glad that even though Danny and Allison won’t be dueting on an entire song, they did get a mini duet in this group number.

  100. Adam is the only one who sounded great.

With all due respect, because I don’t want to encourage more banter about who’s singing better or what not, but I do not believe that’s true because biases do come into play in stuff like this. Yes, he sounds great, but I also thought Megan(!) sounded good even though I’m not a fan, as did most of the others (even though the sounds seemed a little more muffled). I mean, everyone thought “Adam” sounded good in Anoop & Matt’s interview in the background, until people realized that it was Scott.

  101. I mean, everyone thought à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ sounded good in Anoop & Mattà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview in the background, until people realized that it was Scott.

LOLOLzzzzz!!! HAHAaaaaaaa!!!! That speaks VOLUMES – nay, LIBRARIES.

  102. Swoon! Ahh, I can’t wait for the tour! Yeah, it was a little shaky, but most of them sounded pretty good. Like the Allison/Anoop moments together, Danny was a little shaky. And loving the glory note for Adam at the end! Scott will need to work on that opening a bit though — that’s a little too high for him.

ETA: Regarding doing the version from the show, instead of this one, I guess they wanted to mainly keep everyone in order, elimination wise (not exactly, of course, with Matt and Scott starting), but they clearly want to end with Adam and Kris, which I think makes sense. They probably won’t even be visible on stage till right before they sing, so you’ll get the big, “crowd cheering” effect as each person appears in elim order to sing their solo.

  103. Holy Hell – that was a painful performance. Scott cannot sing. Seriously, how did he ever get in the top 13? Matt wasn’t too much better. Adam should be singing this song solo since it’s one of his favorites and he blows them all away. It’s way too high for everyone else and they sound like crap.

  104. i personally found this rehearsal to be pretty ok. i liked the begining with scott and matt but i havent seen the one with the kris/allison opening so i wouldn’t know. and scott’s piano playing skills are pretty good. glad he’s doing what he enjoys the most. all of them sounded ok and i dont think we need to judge who sings better and who sings worse. these guys are just out of a competition so no point in judging them all over again.

by the way, is it only me who caught the spark between anoop and megan, or is it just wishful thinking? :wub_tb: LOL

  105. So here I am at work again listening but not being able to watch in that sneaky way I have so as not to alert the bosses.

LOL Lucky for me my boss isn’t in today or this entire month. Hurrah for me :)

  106. All I can keep telling myself is…Scott should not be there…

And that Megan needed more lines…she sounded good!

  107. Got to say I am a huge, huge Kris Allen fan, but Mattie G. sounded awesome, both voice and piano. It is really too bad that he was so nervous on the show. He sounds so much better now that he doesn’t have to compete.

  108. Matt and Scott really rock out on the piano. Sounds great. Matt and Lil’s vocals sound good. Anoop was struggling to hit those notes. Actually none of the rest of them sounded all that good to me, but it was just a rehearsal. The harmonies were nice though.

  109. What’s weird to me is that the GLEE people sounded so much better than any of this group except Adam. Maybe it’s just that I saw that commercial a gazillion times. Or that the lead girl (Lea Michelle) was so very good, and she got the lion’s share of the song.

Anyway, Steve Perry has an insanely high voice, so it ought to be easier for the girls. And Adam. And it was. Given that, I honestly thought they all sounded about as good as they could be expected to. Except maybe Danny, who really needs to learn that dueting is not about singing AT or OVER the other person.

P.S. I always hated Journey and Steve Perry. I just wanted to say that one more time. :-)

Ok so I am totally biased but Adam just blows them all away! That said, I am looking forward to July 16th LA Staples Center :thumbup_tb:

You are so right! Yep, July 16th LA Staples Center can’t come fast enough for me! :jittery_tb:

  111. Watching Adam dance and rock out is pretty much the best part of the video. SO EFFING CUTE!!! He just seems to get lost in the moment and get caught up in the music!!!! And he has a great profile… But I’m getting side tracked aren’t I…. Is that drool on my keyboard…. Whoops!! I actually think this is pretty good. Freaking excited beyond belief. August 28th is the going to be the best day of my summer. Can’t wait to see you my Adam!!! Haha we’re in Milwaukee and everyones going to want to see danny the douche (the one who doesn’t know how to sing with a GROUP!) but I’ll be waving my Adam banner like a regular tard. And Allison and kris. I’ll be showing my love for you guys!!!! Oh excited!!!!! Eeeeeppp!!!!!!

  112. I thought it was cute and loved that Anoop was easy to see. Needs work but overall pretty good. The Lil, Megan, and Adam seemed most comfortable with the high notes but thought some of the others did pretty well with it. I’d rather have seen one of the group numbers they did well on the show though.

  113. I guess I’m in the minority, but I just loved hearing this! I have been a fan of only 4 or 5 of them, but I enjoyed each and every voice I heard, even if they weren’t all spot on. I was most surprised that Lil sounded so good. Wow! It’s the first time I could understand why the judges loved her so much.

It was rough, sure, but in parts they sounded great together. And it was fun! It’s the first time I remember getting to rehearshal video. They’ll have it down pat by tour time, I bet. I’m getting excited!

    Thanks for posting this, MJ.

  114. Adam did sound really good…of course he had the big noticable glory notes. Lil and Anoop sounded really good to me too.

I thought Danny sounded good in the first part, but I think he is trying not to strain his voice. My sister commented that Danny’s voice sounded hoarse when she watched and he did tweet just the other day about being hoarse. In the duet with Allison, his part needed to “go up” more, but he kept it lower, which didn’t sound right. But yeah, he said he’s hoarse.

Lol at Anoop laughing at EVERYBODY….a little immature, but funny.

  115. Clearly still in rehearsal mode…that’s OK, they gotta start somewhere. I wasn’t crazy about the vocals from Scott, Matt, or (sadly) Kris. Anoop was very easy on the ears/eyes. I was shocked that I actually enjoyed Megan’s singing…maybe she will be good on tour. You never know, I think there are songs out there that could fit her voice. I liked Allison’s voice, but I still couldn’t understand a darn word she sang.

  116. The thing is, even though some voices sound noticeably weaker in a setting like this, everyone always sounds MUCH better on the tour – even people I didn’t think much of during the show. They definitely work the sound system to have everyone sounding at their best and loudest. So even the weaker singers will be ok.

That said, Adam, live, at full-blast, is going to be pretty much in a league of his own singing a song like this :-) It just works completely to his strengths.

  117. As usual we can’t hear Allison. I don’t think I cld ever make out the words to any of her songs.

  118. As usual we canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hear Allison. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think I cld ever make out the words to any of her songs.

Hopefully that will change once she gets her braces out.

  119. They need to give Kris his original part back ASAP!

I thought this was quite good, especially for a random rehearsal. No one gives 100% during a rehearsal, especially when they have 2 weeks before the first show even begins. It will sound awesome on stage, which makes me very jealous that I’m not going, haha.

One more thing, and not to stir up dust, but: Of course Adam sounds awesome singing this. It was written to go with Steve Perry’s voice! There’s no way he could sound bad on it, haha.

  120. P.S. I always hated Journey and Steve Perry. I just wanted to say that one more time. :-)

Steve’s still on my list of people I want to punch in the face.

So wow – that rehearsal footage was a little surprising to me for 2 reasons: 1. Scott’s an even worse singer than I originally thought – which I didn’t think was possible and 2. I thought Lil sounded great. That was kind of shocking.

  121. The harmonies were iffy in places, but I think they all, for the most part, sounded good in their solos. I was especially impressed by Lil, Megan and Michael, probably because my expectations for those 3 are never really that high, but they were sounding good here.

  122. Wow this sounded great! Hearing Matt and Scott play this song on the piano makes me want to learn it now.

  123. couldn’t take my eyes off of adam. he’s so gorgeous. his posture is to die for, always straight back and squared shoulders, he enjoys the music , gives it his full attention whether it’s a rehersal, recording,or interview, and he’s wearing his “whole lotta love” jacket! gotta love him. and, just another comment, he can sing rings around anyone else. who can hit those notes? ADAM LAMBERT CAN.

  124. I hope the musical director locks Scott, Matt, Kris and Danny in the rehearsal room from now until the tour starts so they get their voices ironed out. I’m sorry, but they should be embarrassed. Even Megan and Sarver sounded pretty decent.
