Some of this week’s tunes are better than the live performances…and others are shockingly worse. James Durbin’s “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” is my favorite recorded AND live performance. But what the heck happened to Scotty? His live performance of “You’ve Got a Friend” was sweet and tender. But the recorded version is like a fricking hoe down. What a disappointment.
Favs: James’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”, Haley & Casey’s “I Feel The Earth Move”,
Ugh: Scotty’s “You’ve Got A Friend” and Scotty and Lauren’s “Up On The Roof”
American Idol 10 Top 6 iTunes Performances below:
- American Idol 10 Top 6 Compilation – $6.99 – iTunes
- Jacob Lusk – “Uh Oh Not My Baby” – I LOVE this song, and am kind of delighted Jacob would choose this obscure little gem. It was a little messy live, but the recorded version is very soulful. He’s got nothing on Maxine Brown, however. The arrangement reaches back for a retro sound, and I kinda dig it. – iTunes
- Lauren Alaina – “Where You Lead” – I didn’t like this song when Carole sang it, so I’m not digging it much from Lauren. iTunes
- Haley Reinhart & Casey Abrams – “I Feel The Earth Move” – The live performance was a little sloppy, but I’m getting into the recorded version. Haley and Casey have a nice chemistry. I hope they perform together on tour. Nice arrangement, too – iTunes
- Scotty McCreery – “You’ve Got a Friend – WTF? The tenderness and emotion from Scotty’s live performance is completely absent here. What we’ve got is a hot hoedown mess. Disappointing – iTunes
- James Durbin – “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” – Loved the live performance, loved the recording. Jangly pop guitars FOR THE WIN!!! – iTunes
- Lauren Alaina & Scotty McCreery – “Up On The Roof” – OOOOH WEEE. We’re back at the hoe down. Just no. The live arrangement of this song is much better – iTunes
- Casey Abrams – “Hi De Ho” – I like Casey in his jazz/blues mode. He has a tendency to lose vocal quality when he pushes too hard, but of course, that’s all cleaned up in the recording. – iTunes
- Haley Reinhart – “Beautiful” – Haley’s vocals are too autotuned. The live version had an urgency and some pretty awesome phrasing, a lot of which is lost on the recording. Still good. – iTunes
- Jacob Lusk & James Durbin – “I’m Into Something Good” – The live version of this was so silly and over the top, it put a smile on face. I’m going to believe their tongues were in their cheeks. But if not, who cares. The recording version isn’t as fun, but James Durbin does a pretty mean Peter Noone! iTunes
