Entertainment Weekly confirms (well, actually, it was me bugging the FOX Publicity department yesterday. Heh) that Steven Van Zandt, guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street band will be the guest mentor for American Idol this week!
The Top 5 will be singing songs by British artists this week. No, Little Steven is NOT British, but he is a good pal of Idol Mentor, Jimmy Iovine, which seems to be the criteria for appearing as a guest mentor. Van Zandt has had a long musical career that spans over 4 decades. He’ll bring an interesting perspective to the proceedings.
As far as what the Idols should sing? I’m going to toss out a few general ideas:
Phil Phillips – Rolling Stones, Mumford & Sons
Hollie Cavanagh – Petula Clark, Corrine Bailey Rae
Jessica Sanchez – Shirley Bassey, Amy Winehouse
Skylar Laine – Rolling Stones, Leona Lewis
Joshua Ledet – The Who “Pinball Wizard”, Jay Sean or Taio Cruz
