ETA: Oh yeah. There are James fans blaming Haley for his ouster. (which doesn’t make much sense if you ask me) so certainly there are fans of James who won’t be voting for Haley. But that casual AI viewer who voted for James I think would be more likely to change their allegiance to Haley because they both sing different sub-genres of rock.
I think the producers would LOVE an all-country, all-teen finale featuring their two most marketable contestants, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. Vote splitting is going to make that scenario very difficult, with country fans picking Scotty, Lauren or both. Haley Reinhart is more likely to pick up the votes that James Durbin left behind. I believe she’s destined for the final. She’ll compete against either Scotty or Lauren.
Scotty seems to be unstoppable, however. It’s hard to imagine him not making the final and then going on to win the whole thing. He’s young, he’s wholesome, he’s apple pie. He’s got a distinctive voice. and confident personality. He’s been consistent all season. He knows who he is, even at the tender age of 16.
Although I think Lauren, as a country pop singer, is more marketable (Scotty’s got the voice of an old man in a young boy’s body. Not sure that can be marketed to the teen set) she doesn’t have what it takes right now to win a competition. She’s got a ton of raw talent, but she lacks confidence and self-possession. In the battle of the vote split, Scotty is going to come out on top.
If we were, by chance, to end up with an all country final–it would be the first time two competitors from the same genre faced off against each other in the final.
Here’s my list: What do you think? How will the Top 3 of American Idol eventually shake out?
1. Scotty McCreery
2. Haley Reinhart
3. Lauren Alaina
