American Idol 2021 Top 15: Casey Bishop Kills Her Performance of Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun
The 16-year-old rocker opened with some lovely phrasing. Her audition still has me going back, so I won’t go as far to say tonight’s performance was better than her first Idol performance. I think the vocal coaches on Idol must be really working with her to get her voice to full potential. Casey has always possessed the voice. But her timing, encompassing vibrato and dynamics have really improved. She did not just wail the entire time, all belting and everything full horsepower like she did with “She Talks to Angels” and some of “Decode.” I liked “Decode” but tonight was the moment when I finally thought, “Casey is back!”
Casey was in my top 3 of the night. Hunter Metts and Madison Watkins were the other two that wowed me with their emotive and artistic performances. Casey gave the most rocking, powerhouse performance of the night. She really left it all out there!
Katy Perry calls Casey ‘Dangerous
Judge Luke Bryan said, “You can sing anything you want to” adding that he doesn’t know why she chose rock, but it is her “thing.” Lionel Richie said that she starts out as a “fairy princess” and then ends up like “Joplin.” He wonders where her “extra pair of lungs are.” Katy Perry, who told Casey to make the stage her b**** last week after her impressive duet with Incubus’ Brandon Boyd, said this week that it was her best performance to date, and called her “dangerous.”
Casey is definitely a frontrunner who will be soaring through to the top 12. If I had to guess right now, I bet Casey will make the Top 5. She is growing through the live shows, Her performances reveal a true confidence and a natural stage presence. I am rooting for her.
