‘American Idol’ to film at Motown Museum with Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson Thursday

This just in from the Detroit Press:

The top-rated television show will encamp at the Motown Historical Museum on Thursday, the Free Press has learned, shooting footage for a Motown-themed episode next week.

In Motown old Studio A, Detroit icons Berry Gordy Jr. and Smokey Robinson will mentor the show 10 finalists through a series of Hitsville song selections, sources said. The taped segments will air next week before the contestants perform the songs live on the show Los Angeles stage.

Museum officials declined to comment. An “American Idol” spokeswoman would not confirm plans for a Detroit shoot.

Next week is a Motown theme, with a focus on the 50th anniversary of Motown.
