I had no trouble ordering the five remaining Idols this week. Crystal Bowersox is still on top, with Lee DeWyze behind her. Aaron Kelly takes 3rd place, and just because we’re down to 5, and somebody has to be last, I’ve got Casey James bringing up the rear…
Of course, the order could completely change after the Idols tackle the songs of Frank Sinatra tonight…..
1. Crystal Bowersox – The judges didn’t like Crystal’s performance last week, but I think she’s still at the top of the heap. Now, the pressure is on for Crystal. In order to stay #1, she’s got to have a stellar performance tonight. And since I believe the girl can sing anything, I’m not worried.
2. Lee DeWyze – He’s coming up in Crystal’s rear-view mirror, and it appears he can do no wrong in the eyes of the judges. Even his pitchy performance of “You’re Still the One” won raves from the judges. If he manages to turn in great performances from now on, he could snatch that crown from Crystal.
3. Aaron Kelly – Thanks to Aaron’s mom-centric performance of “It’s In The Way You Love Me” last week, Aaron is continuing to build a fan base. With the elimination of Siobhan Magnus last week, I would not be shocked to see Aaron in the Top 3.
4. Michael Lynche – He’s got a distinct style–R&B–going for him and I can’t imagine Michael is splitting votes with anybody at this point. He may continue to hang on, even though his Idol run has been difficult. If he sings well tonight, I don’t see him leaving.
5. Casey James – Casey has had some great moments on Idol, but too often he’s turned in karaoke-like performances. He needs to turn in another fantastic performance, like last week, to stay in the race. A tall order, considering he’ll be out of his comfort zone completely tonight. Also, I suspect he’s splitting votes with Lee. He’s got the toughest road to travel this week.
